John Middleton and wife Hannah to Nathaniel Oldham

This Indenture made this third day of November in the year of our Lord 1797, Between John Middleton of the County of Westmoreland of Parish of Cople and his wife Hannah Middleton of the one part and Nathaniel Oldham of the other part. Witnessth that the said John Middleton and Hannah his wife for and in consideration of the sum of eighteen pounds, ten shillings current money of Virginia to them in hand do hereby acknowledge of there of every part or parcel thereof do clearly acquit and discharge the said Oldham his heirs, exors, administrators or every on of them by these presents have given granted, bargained, sold, aligned ______and confirmed and by these do give, grant, bargain, sell, align _____ confirm unto the said Nathaniel Oldham his heirs all the estate, rights, title, interest property claimed demand whatsoever belonging or in any wise appertaining to the said John Middleton and Hannah his wife of in and to a certain tract of land lying in the county of Westmoreland and Cople Parish containing eighteen and ½ acres and bounded as follows. Beginning at a red oak tree that divides this land from the land of Captain William Middleton decd., thence down said line to a white oak thence down said line to a gum at the side of the Branch which is a corner tree thence ____ up the ____ branch along Wm. Cox line to a ____near the head of a gulley thence NE along said line to a leader sapling corner thence NW up the line between said land of the land of the aforesaid Oldham’s land to a small leader corner that divides the said land from the land of John Middleton deceased thence SW up said line to a leader sapling Corner thence S. along said line to a Sycamore thence a straight ____course to the beginning together with all the revisions and revisions remainder and remainders yearly of other rents and profits of the premises of every part or parcel thereof to have and to hold the aforesaid land and tenements with all of singular and of the premises herein before mentioned meant or intended to be hereby granted aligned ____confirmed and every part and parcel thereof with these of every of their appurtenances into the said Nathaniel Oldham his heirs, exor’s, to the only use of him the said Nathaniel Oldham his heirs ____ forever of the said John Middleton and Hannah his wife their heirs and the said mentioned grated premises with the appurtances unto the Nathaniel Oldham his heirs against them the said John Middleton and Hannah his wife their heirs and against all other persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said John Middleton and Hannah his wife has her unto set their hand and seal the day and year above mentioned.

I think you will agree that on the next document that I send where Thomas and Judith sold land to John Middleton that it is referring to this same piece of land. Lot of the same identifying factors: same kind of trees, gulleys, and etc. Only thing is it is 25 acres and this is 18 ½ acres that he is selling. Wonder why are what takes places with the other 6 ½ acres. It may have the homestead on it since he has not moved at this time. Also you will notice on this deed it does not mention that long list of homestead, outbuildings, fences and etc. that is mentioned in the deed between William and wife Elizabeth Middleton and Fleet Cox.
