BSAC Requirements for training:

In order to abide by the BSAC training policy all training must be carried out by or directly under the supervision of a Qualified Instructor. This includes when a trainee is being trained by an Assistant Diving Instructor either in the pool or in open water, a BSAC qualified instructor must be on site, to review and answer any questions about the training lessons. Theoretical & Practical training can also be carry out by the following Assistant Instructors up to their diving grade, and under the direct supervision of one of the above qualified instructors.

In order to monitor diver training an updated version of the Dive log sheet has been produced to record the lesson number being taught and the nominated qualified instructor on site. These details need only be entered onto the log sheet if training is being undertaken by any of the divers. The usual Dive Manager and Assistant Dive Manager and dive details are captured as normal. A similar sheet is also being produced for the pool and classroom lessons. All these sheets must be returned to the folder on the club notice board where the dive logs have always been kept.

When people present their log book to the diving officer for signing, it will be these sheets that will be cross referenced to confirm that training has been completed. As a club we are required to keep accurate and update training and diving records, I hope that these new sheets will make this easier from now on.
