County Council Board Meeting Notes

  1. Executive Board met at Bank of America to sign in on the County Council account.
  1. Vicky Munsell resigned from County Council Board.
  1. C.C. board meetings will be held the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at S.C.R.E.C.
  1. Pam Ulrich/Pam Ragland Complaint.
  1. Achievement Awards will be held November 16th at 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Fountain ValleyHeritagePark. It will not be a dinner – punch and cookie will be served. Cost of renting venue will be $300.00. This will include tables and chairs, bathroom, kitchen useage. A $900.00 budget was approved. Jason will ask cooking project groups if they would make cookies for event- need about 400 cookies. Signage will be needed. Rach-Siebert scholarship winner will be awarded at event – need certificate/plaque.
  1. Food Fiesta will be held the last Saturday in January. The Food Fiesta Committee will meet the first Thursday of the month in November, December and January. Should there be an incentive for early entry?
  1. Presentation Day will be held at the Montessori on the Lake school in March. It costs $500.00 for the day. Wendy Bender works at the school.
  1. Imaginology/Youth Expo will be April 24, 25, 26 (Easter is April 5th).
  1. Scott Mautte from the State 4-H office will be willing to provide a record book workshop for $800.00.
  1. Jason will ask Corey Luna if she can create a OrangeCounty 4-H logo before State Leadership Conference.
  1. Disney half marathon has been moved to April. Volunteering for this event requires a commitment of a minimum of 50 people aged 14 years and up. Deadline to commit is Nov.
  1. $125.00 for treasurer book training was approved.

  1. Farmer’s Markets: Members are encouraged to visit/shop at a Certified Farmer’s Market. The Farm Bureau is the organization that certifies that local farmer’s markets actually have locally grown quality produce. There are three certified markets Certified Farmer’s Markets in OrangeCounty; Irvine at Mariner’s Church, Laguna and Laguna Niguel. Jason is working on having a 4-H booth at a Farmer’s Market to connect with public. The booth would have an educational as well as informational content and members could make marketing connection or sponsorships for animals/food raised and grown. Need discussion to help members with wording and communication to potential sponsors regarding animals grown with some organic methods and/or feed.
  1. Imagine Science Project: This runs from now until fall of 2015. $400,000.00 has been approved for this project. The project will coordinate with 4-H, Y.M.C.A. Boys and Girl’s Club, and Girl’s Inc. (NOICE Corp.)
  1. Disney Grant for Project Access – Intent is to install communal garden. Karen Wilson is with the OrangeCounty Master Gardener/Preservers and has attended Cordon Bleu cooking school.
  1. Teen Involvement Conference: Registration Fees are $120.00 early bird, $140.00 regular and $160 late. Need to find out amount of funds in the Suzanne Guthrie Scholarship account and how it has been handled in the past.
  1. Teen Council: The County will pay 50% of the registration fee for Teen Involvement Conference (T.I.C.) and State Leadership Conference (S.L.C.) for members serving on the Teen Council. Teens will have a presence at CountyEvents and provide outreach. Leadership Project leaders can be contacted to pass on these opportunities to Teens.
  1. State Leadership Conference: No involvement will be required by the County Council. We can provide some activity idea.
  1. Orange CountyLogo: We still need an OrangeCounty logo or artwork idea.
  1. Food Fiesta: We need a Food Fiesta budget. We can look at last years records for amounts.
  1. Presentation Day: Committee meeting January 7th at 7:00 p.m. at U.C S.C.R.E.C.
  1. Leader Banquet: Plan on holding in June.
  1. Imaginology: Meeting December 11th at 7:00 p.m. at U.C. S.C.R.E.C.

  1. Food Fiesta Update:Eleven members signed up so far. Also eleven judges volunteering. Registration does not close until Jan. 23 – many members will sign up closer to the deadline. It was mentioned thatthey may not have yet chosen their dish. To encourage early registration, gift cards from Chipotle will be given out as an early registration incentive for members. Tanaka Farms is hosting a private 4-H farm tour for members on January 24th at 10:00 a.m. Members will leave with a bag of fresh produce. S.C.R.E.C has fruit available for members to pick up to use for their Food Fiesta dishes. Lemons, cherimoya, guava
  1. Fashion Review Update: Fashion Review will be held March 28th.
  2. Presentation Day Update: Presentation Day will be moved a couple of weeks later to March 21st to allow for more planning time.
  3. Youth Expo Update: It was decided to cancel the meeting tomorrow night as many committee members are sick.
