· Use of brachiopods in paleogeographic modelling of the western Cordillera of North and South America and the relationships between paleoecology, paleobiogeogeography, and paleogeography. Recent investigations concentrating on Mesozoic brachiopods from lithotectonostratigraphical (suspect) terranes of the Western Cordillera of North and South America.

· Brachiopod paleobiogeography in relation to fossil chemosynthetic cold seep communites.

· Recent research includes aspects of Carboniferous, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous and Eocene brachiopod paleoecology, paleobiogeography, paleogeography, biostratigraphy, and taxonomy.

· Application of computer graphics in brachiopod taxonomy. Image digitizing and quantification of the internal structures of fossil brachiopods.
