Homework & Daily Preparation
As for any world language, it is IMMENSELY important that you practice new concepts and vocabulary at home between classes. Homework will be checked for completion and accuracy every day at the beginning of class, so have it ready when you arrive. Homework will count for 8% of your class grade.
Grading and Late Policy
Grading in this class will consist of 8% homework and 92% summative grades. Homework will be graded for completion and accuracy. Summativeswill include quizzes, tests, and projects. Formative assessments, although they do not count toward your grade, will also be recorded in the Phoenix gradebook. Work that is turned in late will be penalized.
On the due date:100%
Within two school days:90%
Before end of quarter:50%
After end of quarter:0%
Absences and Make-Up Work
If you must be absent for any reason, the work that you missed will be collected for you in a folder left by the entrance to our classroom. On the next day that you are in school, please come to collect your work and begin making up the necessary assignments. You will be responsible for initiating the scheduling of any make-up assessments within one week of your return to school, and for submitting graded make-up work within two school days from your return. Work submitted after those two school days will be counted late, and the procedures listed in the section above will apply. Students who are absent are also expected to check Google classroom to remain updated on assignments and assessments.
Retakes
You will be permitted to retake tests and quizzes. The re-take grade will be averaged with the original grade and recorded accordingly. A re-take may be only done once per assessment. There are no re-takes for students 4th Quarter. In order to retake a summative assessment, you must:
- Have an original grade of less than 90%
- Initiate the re-take with Mrs. Miller
- Have all current assignments (homework, classwork, projects, etc.) completed.
- Make assessment corrections before the re-take. A parent/guardian signature is required on the correction form. This form can be found in the bin near the classroom entrance, and must be submitted to the teacher prior to the re-take.
Students with failing grades on Stage Tests only will also be permitted to complete corrections for partial credit towards their original grade.
Google Classroom
Google classroom will be the main mode of communication regarding assignments and assessments. Students will be required to join Google Classroom, and may occasionally be asked to complete assignments using Google Classroom.
Class Website
I will also keep a class website via the Harmony Middle School website at this address:
Please visit this page to find resources and materials for your class, all of my policies on re-takes, homework, grading, etc. and where to find me during the day.
Quizlet
Making an account on Quizlet.com and joining our class will be highly beneficial to you in your study of vocabulary and other terms in Latin. You can find the link to join our class on my Harmony Middle School website above.
Contacting Mrs. Miller
I will be traveling between Harmony Middle School and Woodgrove High School, so you will not always be able to find me in my room. However, I will be at Harmony only in the morning on A days (through 1st block), and all day on B days. Please do not hesitate to stop by with a question or concern before or after school. If you cannot find me at Harmony, email is also a great way to contact me at .
*Nota Bene (take careful note!)
Your grade in Latin this year will count towards high school credit, and is considered a high school course even when you are taking it at Harmony. I believe that you have what it takes to succeed in my class, and I will do everything I can to ensure that happens. Please be prepared and try your best every day that you come to class, and please come to me if there is anything that you need help with.
