Week 19 Newsletter: Grade 4

(January 2nd- January 5th)

This Past Week’s Events

This week the grade 4’s continued their study of Canada and mapping out the country. The students were able to explain where items were located on a map using the directions north, south, east and west. Then, students were tasked with describing items on a map as well as in the real world with words such as, between, next to, above and below. These prepositions are crucial for communicating locations in English. All these skills allow students to navigate through maps and through the world around them in English.

At the end of the week, we reviewed for the final exam next Tuesday, January 9th. The exam will cover what we learned in our country unit and some of our Canada unit. Students will review topics such as, housing, clothing, transportation, map reading and prepositions. Students can use the weekend to further study the material in preparation for the exam.

Next Week’s Expectations

At the start of next week, students will review for and take their final exam. After exam day, we return to our study of Canada. We will begin identifying and describing important places in the country of Canada. We will learn about cities such as, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Exploring the important places in Canada will help students better understand the greater world outside Taiwan as well as gain important knowledge that will aid students should they chose to travel abroad one day.

Homework

With the 3x3 homework grid, we encourage students to choose a different row each time to ensure they are completing a variety of tasks each week.

Raz Kids Recommendations

There is no raz-kids homework this weekend. We want students to utilize the weekend to study for their exam the following Tuesday.

However, reading should be a part of every child’s daily routine. As teachers we know the importance of instilling good reading habits in children. To help your child to adopt good reading habits, we recommend you to give your child the time to read for personal interests such as in a public library or even at home on Raz Kids.
As a common practice, Children should be given the opportunity to choose books of their own interests and to read in a relaxed environment. We hope that you can support your child’s love for reading by allowing for this this time in their daily routines.

光仁小學ESL雙語班週報–四年級

第一學期第十九週

本週重點(01/02 ~ 01/05)

這週,四年級學生繼續探索更多關於加拿大的事物,並學習如何在地圖上標出位置。學生能夠運用東,西,南,北方位來描述地圖上物品的位置。老師也同時考驗學生,讓他們使用between(在…之間)、next to(在…旁邊)、above(在…之上)、below(在…之下)等介系詞描述生活中事物的方位。當我們用英語來描述地點時,這些字詞是非常重要的。這些技能可以讓學生以英語的思維思考地圖方位及周邊的世界。

週五,我們複習了下週二(1/9)期末考的內容。考試範圍包含我們學過的”國家’’單元以及部分“關於加拿大”的單元。學生將會複習像是房子、服飾、交通工具、地圖瀏覽以及介係詞等主題。他們也可以先利用週末的時間複習,為期末考做準備。

下週重點(01/08 - 01/12)

週一,他們將會為期末考做複習,而週二,我們將進行本學期的期末考。考試結束後,我們將回到加拿大的主題,學生將學習辨認以及描述加拿大的重要城市,一同了解多倫多,蒙特婁和溫哥華等城市。探索加拿大的重要地點將有助於他們更多元的了解台灣以外更廣闊的世界,並獲得重要的知識,讓他們思考在未來是否想至這些地方旅遊。
