Purpose / This unit standard is for people working in the carpet industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to: receive carpet into store from production or off-site; store carpet; distribute carpet for cutting or despatch; and maintain storage and despatch records.

Explanatory notes
1Plant safety practices and procedures comply with Health and Safety in Employment (HSE) Act 1992, and workplace procedures.
2Workplace productivity and quality requirements are met.
3It is recommended that persons seeking credit for this unit standard have already completed Unit 7221, Roll and wrap carpet, or can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.

Outcome 1
Receive carpet into store from production or off-site.
Evidence requirements
1.1Receipt checks are carried out according to workplace practice.
Rangeroll identification, quality and condition of carpet, other checks required in the workplace.
1.2Receipt documentation is carried out according to workplace practice.
Outcome 2
Store carpet.
Evidence requirements
2.1Carpet storage location is selected and location documented.
2.2Carpet roll is handled without damage according to workplace safety procedures.
Rangecore intact, carpet not torn or punctured, wrapping undamaged, identification clear and readable.
2.3Carpet roll is stored safely according to workplace practice, and protected against damage.
Rangeprotected from damage – fade, moisture, dirt and contamination.
Outcome 3
Distribute carpet for cutting or despatch.
Evidence requirements
3.1Carpet roll identification conforms to work instruction.
3.2Delivery instructions accompany rolls for despatch.
3.3Carpet roll is moved safely to required location according to work instruction and workplace practice.
3.4Lifting and moving equipment is selected and used according to workplace practice.
3.5Carpet roll is moved without damage to carpet or workplace equipment.
Outcome 4
Maintain storage and despatch records.
Evidence requirements
4.1Storage records identify current location and record other information according to workplace practice.
4.2Despatch records identify despatch date, method, destination, and other information according to workplace practice.
