Egyptian Cuff

Materials…

o  Sellotape empty circles

o  Markers

o  PVA Glue

o  Jewels

o  Gold oil pastel

o  Gold glitter

o  Gold borderette

Process…

1.  Begin by choosing some Egyptian designs you wish to recreate on the Egyptian cuff, these could be symbols to represent initials or name etc.

2.  Using masking tape stick together three bands to create a thick cuff detail.

3.  Use markers to lightly draw in Egyptian chosen designs. Avoid black at this stage…..

4.  Over the top add a layer of muddied PVA glue (mixture of PVA and brown water based paint and water) and lightly pad this over the cuff, add a layer of toilet tissue over the top to create an older feeling.

5.  When dry you can finalise details which have spread because of the watered glue. Tighten up shapes in black and even add shape over the top of design.

6.  Add jewels and sequins to decorate.

7.  Glue the rim of cuff and add a glitter edging to the final piece.

8.  To decorate the inside, add a piece of gold borderette which will finish off the design.

Egyptian Jewels

Materials…

o  Iron

o  Hama beads

o  Hama bead paper

o  Hama bead boards

o  Egyptian designs

Process…

1.  Select a design from the Egyptians, for example, scarab beetle, Egyptian eye, spirals, hieroglyphics according to names or initials.

2.  Using a bead board start to add coloured Hama beads to your outline, use two lines to make a double line to make design stand out.

3.  Use different colours to fill in the inside of the design.

4.  Cut out a piece of Hama iron paper enough to cover your design and place over finished design.

5.  Using a hot iron (no steam) brush this over the beads and Hama paper, keep the iron moving and keep checking beads. You need to be careful not to melt down too far onto the bead board as you will flatten the pins.

6.  Allow the board to cool along with the paper and don’t try to peel off until totally cool, once cool you can easily remove the Hama beads from the board in one piece.

Once you have mastered this technique, why not try this Scarab Beetle?
