PROGRAM ASSISTANT
The Program Assistant is responsible for promoting and maintaining a warm, friendly home in which persons being served are given the opportunity to reach their optimal level of independence and skills necessary for community living. The role of Program Assistant is to provide guidance, counsel, and teaching necessary to assist each person served to acquire the greatest amount of self-sufficiency possible, and to decrease dependence on staff.
The Program Assistant will:
A.Develop and maintain relationships with the people served by DRCC that respect their rights and promote their interests by:
1.Knowing and modeling DRCC's goals and philosophy.
2.Being knowledgeable of the needs of the persons served and ensuring that their needs are met.
3.Knowing Residents’ Rights and ensuring those rights are respected.
4.Knowing the Vulnerable Adult, Maltreatment of Minors, Facility Abuse Prevention Plan, and DRCC policy and ensuring that these are followed.
5.Soliciting input from individuals served and respecting their choices.
B.Protect the health and safety of each person in the program by:
- Providing and ensuring for the security and safety of each person being served.
- Providing safety when transporting people being served.
C.Coordinate the various aspects of providing services to the people served by implementing Coordinated Service and Support Plans and:
- Providing assistance, training, and supervision in the areas of hygiene, toileting, dressing, grooming, nutrition, health care, support services, use of specialized equipment, leisure time, community social interactions, and personal finances.
- Communicating client illness, appointments, vacations, etc. with day program/work and other service providers on an ongoing basis.
- Assist clients with personal care including lifting, transferring, bathing, and toileting as needed.
- Implement behavior management plans including physical escorts, restraints, etc. when needed.
D.Maintain the building and equipment by (as applicable):
1.Providing and supervising the cleaning and orderliness of the home.
2.Identifying and reporting needed repairs to the Program Director.
3.Purchasing food, health care, and cleaning supplies as directed by the Program Director or Program Coordinator.
E.Display personal communication skills by:
- Communicating clearly and appropriately with the people we serve.
- Contributing to a positive work environment by encouraging, supporting, and demonstrating effective and respectful communication among DRCC staff.
- Establishing good interpersonal working relationships with families, other professionals, and the public.
F.Perform other programmatic functions by:
- Providing complete and thorough documentation.
- Attending meetings and training as directed.
- Performing delegated duties as assigned.
