EMRE YILMAZ SCHOLARSHIP

History

Emre Yılmaz died tragically in January 2002 at a very young age. He is undoubtedly best known by the Canadian-Turkish community for his contribution to Turkish folklore, especially by those living in the Greater Metropolitan Toronto Area. He presented his outstanding Turkish folklore skills at many festivities and events in Canada and United States of America with the Anatolian Folk Dancers.

In order to commemorate his memory and his achievements the Anatolian Folk Dancers (AFD) and the Canadian Turkish Islamic Trust, Inc. (CTIT) have jointly established the EMRE YILMAZ SCHOLARSHIP (the “Scholarship”) in 2002.

The Administration Committee has agreed to volunteer their time in order to administer the Scholarship.

Sources of Income

Scholarship funds are to be raised through fund-raising events and individual contributions. All funds raised will be awarded to Scholarship winner(s), if any, in the first quarter of the following year without deducting any administration fee.

If we all could give a donation in Emre’s name to help fund the Scholarship, we all, in our own way, could help honour his living memory and provide a fitting tribute to a special individual who cared so much about Turkish folklore and keeping alive and showcasing Turkish traditions in North America. If you wish to donate to the Scholarship in memory of Emre Yılmaz please send a cheque to:

Canadian Turkish Islamic Trust, Inc., 336 Pape Avenue, Toronto, ON M4M 2W7. Under the memo portion of the cheque, please indicate that this donation is to go to the “Emre Yılmaz Scholarship”.
