Rules and Regulations

General:

·All games will be played according to USA Hockey rules as amended by Minnesota Hockey with the exceptions listed below.

·Only USA hockey registered referees will be used. No exceptions.

·A physician certified athletic trainer or an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) will be in attendance at all games. Coaches must not be on the surface unless summoned.

·Canadian teams must wear protective equipment as designated by CAHA.

·Each team is responsible for the conduct of its spectators. Coaches should advise parents of the conduct rules. Air horns, bells and whistles are not allowed in the arena. Spectator, coach or player harassment of officials will not be tolerated.

Rosters/Check-In

·Managers or coaches are required to check-in their teams a minimum of one hour prior to the start of the teams’ first game.

·The following items are required at check-in. If any item is not provided, the team will not be allowed to participate.

·A USA Hockey Official Team Roster.

·All rostered coaches are required to be up-to-date with USA Hockey.

·Non-Minnesota teams must provide proof of insurance coverage.

·Up to twenty (20) players may be on the roster and dressed by each team for each game. No more than four (4) adults (coaches with appropriate coaching level card) will be allowed in the players’ box while the games are in progress.

Equipment

·All players will be required to wear complete equipment including helmet, full-face mask, and colored internal mouth guards when on the ice, in the penalty box or on the bench. Bright orange stop patches are required on the back of all jerseys. Players not properly equipped will receive an automatic misconduct penalty.

·The team listed on the top of the bracket is the home team and will wear white or light colored jerseys, conflicts will be resolved at the discretion of the tournament officials.

·Jewelry shall not be worn except for religious or medical reasons. If worn, it must be out of sight and taped to the player’s body.

Periods

·All teams shall be ready to take the ice twenty (20) minutes before their scheduled start time. If the ice and officials are ready, we may start early.

·A five (5) minute warm up period will precede all games. There will be a one (1) minute break between periods, after which the goalies will change ends.

·Games will consist of three (3) thirteen (13) minute stop time periods. The ice will be resurfaced before every game. In the event that a game is running behind schedule, it will be at the Tournament Coordinator’s discretion to have the third period of a game be running time.

·During a game, in the third period, if a team is ahead by five (5) or more goals, running time will be used until the margin is fewer than five goals when stop time will be resumed.

·Each team is permitted a one (1) minute time out during each game.

·If a player is unable to play the game due to an injury or health reasons, but wishes to sit with their Teammates, the player may do so providing they wear a team jersey and helmet/face mask.

Penalties

·Minor….2 minutes

·Major…..5 minutes

·Misconduct…..10 minutes

·Fighting…..Automatic game misconduct-ejection from the game and from the rest of the tournament.

·Any player who receives five (5) penalties in a game, a game misconduct penalty will be assessed and the player will not be able to play the remainder of the game nor the next scheduled game.

·NOTE: In the event a coach or manager receives a game misconduct penalty, the referee will allow the offender five (5) seconds to vacate the players’ box. Failing to leave the box will result in the team bench minor. If the offender still does not leave the players’ box, the referee will allow fifteen (15) seconds for the offender to leave. If they still do not comply, the team shall forfeit the game.

Tie Games

·There will be no overtime in the 7th place game.

·If at the end of regulation, the game is tied there will be a one (1) minute rest period followed by a five (5) minute running time, sudden death overtime with four (4) skaters and a goalie.

·All penalty time in existence at the end of regulation play will be carried over into the overtime period.

·In the event no goal is scored, there will be a one (1) minute rest period followed by a shoot out.

·Beginning with the visiting team, players will alternate shooting at the opposing goalie per the established order determined by the coach at the end of the third period. The first group of five (5) players determined by the coach at the end of overtime, will take alternate shots at the opponent’s goal, with the visitor being the first to shoot. If there is a goal difference after all five (5) players from each team have taken a shot the team with the most goals will be the winner of the game. If there is still a tie, there will be a sudden death shoot out with each team getting a chance to shoot. This process will be repeated until there is a winner. A team must use all rostered players (except dressed backup goalie) once before any player can take a second shot. A player with time remaining on a penalty after the sudden death period is completed will not be allowed to participate in the shoot out.

·Scorekeepers will note player numbers during shootouts and alert referees of conflicts. If all players on a team roster have shot, then the shootout list will be used in reverse order, with the last player to shoot, going first and so on.

The Tournament Director and or his/her designated representatives will be in attendance throughout the entire tournament. In the event of a dispute or issue the decision of the tournament officials shall be final.
