Ms Angela Cravagan
Dear Ms Cravagan,
Request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
I refer to your correspondence dated 26 November2012 requesting the following information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002:
1. The total number of Child protection orders applied for in the
past five years.
2. The total number of Child protection orders granted in the past
five years.
The Council is treating your request as a request made under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
1. The total number of Child protection orders applied for in the
past five years.
Our recording systems record the amount of Child Protection Orders granted rather than Child Protection Orders applied for. We therefore do not hold the total number figure that you are seeking in respect of Child Protection Orders applied for over the past 5 years.
The information you have requested would have to be created, compiled or derived, if that was possible, from data in a large number of individual case files and such an exercise would be cost prohibitive.
A large trawl of individual case records to determine and collate individual circumstances will have cost implications and there is a cost limit allowed by section 12(1) of the Act and the fees regulations made under the Act. However, as we do not hold the total figure that you have requested it is our view that it is more appropriate and accurate to advise you that, in accordance with Section 17 of the Act, the specific information you require is not held, rather than it is too costly to provide.
2. The total number of Child protection orders granted in the past
five years.
In respect of Glasgow City Council, there were 425 Child Protection Orders granted over the past 5 years.
I trust this information is helpful.
If you are dissatisfied with the way Glasgow City Council has dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act (Scotland) 2002 you are entitled to require the Council to review its decision. Please note that for a review to take place you must:
- Lodge a written requirement for a review within 40 working days of the date of this letter
- Include a correspondence address and a description of the original request and the reason why you are dissatisfied
- Address your request to the Executive Director of Corporate Services:
The Executive Director of Corporate Services

You will receive notice of the results of the review within 20 working days of receipt of your request. The notice will state the decision reached by the reviewing officer as well as details of how to appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner if you are still dissatisfied with the Council’s response. You must request an internal review by the Council before a complaint can be directed to the Scottish Information Commissioner.
