A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND L. MORGAN MARTIN OF CONWAY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN IMPROVING TRANSPORTATION DURING HIS TENURE AS CHAIRMAN OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, CONGRATULATE HIM FOR HIS EXEMPLARY RECORD OF PUBLIC SERVICE AS A DISTINGUISHED TRIAL LAWYER, STATE PROSECUTOR, AND MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AND WISH HIM EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mr. L. Morgan Martin was born in Galivants Ferry on January 28, 1953. He is the son of Lonnie and Edna Martin. He graduated from Aynor High School in 1971, and is also a graduate of Francis Marion University in 1975 and the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1978; and

Whereas, Mr. Martin served as a state prosecutor for eight years and six years in the House of Representatives where he was Chairman of the Criminal Law Committee and Chairman of the Commission on Sentencing Guidelines; and

Whereas, during his service as Chairman of the South Carolina Department of Transportation several major projects were underway including the widening of Interstate 95 in Florence and Darlington Counties, the Cooper River Bridge Project, the Carolina Bays Parkway construction, and the widening of Interstate 85 in Anderson County and Interstate 385 in Greenville County; and

Whereas, in his law practice, Mr. Martin has participated in numerous significant civil and criminal trials with an emphasis on criminal law. He has successfully prosecuted and defended over thirty murder cases; and

Whereas, he is a member of many organizations including the prestigious American Board of Criminal Lawyer’s Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Trial Lawyer’s Association; and

Whereas, Mr. Martin and his wife, Sonya, have three wonderful children, Mary Ashley, Morgan O’Bryan, and Hayley Elizabeth. He faithfully attends the First United Methodist Church of Conway with his family. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend L. Morgan Martin of Conway for his outstanding leadership and accomplishments in improving transportation during his tenure as Chairman of the South Carolina Department of Transportation, congratulate him for his exemplary record of public service as a distinguished trial lawyer, state prosecutor, and member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, and wish him every success in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to L. Morgan Martin of Conway.
