Job Title:BusinessDevelopment Manager

Based at:Y Care International (YCI), London office

Job Purpose:To develop new business relationships and fundraising opportunities that increase income for Y Care International’s (YCI) core activities.

Accountable to:Fundraising & Marketing Director

Accountable for:Realising and expanding financial forecast targets beyond £1m (2018-2019) for income growth across trusts and foundations, high value donor/partnerships and corporate income streams.

Developing and sustaining a new business pipeline to support the delivery of a business development strategy.

Developing and fostering new and innovative products and services aligned with YCI’s strategy.

Senior Trusts & Foundations Coordinator; Senior Major Partnerships Coordinator; volunteers or interns as required from time-to-time.

Main Responsibilities

1.Business Development strategy

  • Under the direction of the Fundraising & MarketingDirector, developand implementan integrated business development strategy that meets and builds on financial forecast targets (2018-2021)
  • Develop new voluntary income, commercial opportunities or new product offerings which generate income managing this process from identification, research, development of business cases and proposals.Collaborating with others across the organisation, lead analysis and offer improvement and innovation of current and potential income generating activities to improve return of investment and ensure they are meeting the needs of the organisation and donors
  • Keep abreast of national and international funding opportunities, sector best practice and wider trends in order to identify unmet needs, spot opportunities and position YCI for success.

2.Management of strategic trusts & foundations

  • Lead the strategic and tactical planning of trusts and foundations fundraising for future income growth at YCI (income of £700k+forecast for 2017-18)
  • Support the Senior Trusts & Foundations Coordinator to significantly increase the amount of restricted and unrestricted income from trusts, foundations and other grant-making and donor organisations through the preparation of high quality funding applications and proposals
  • Lead on the development of strategic trust and foundation relationships including cultivation and proposal activities to strengthen the commitment of high value supporters

3.New income stream development

  • With the support of the Senior Major Partnerships Coordinatordevelop the corporate pipeline and win new business for YCI
  • Build and develop sponsorship, corporate engagement, partnership and other relevant packages to win new business
  • Approach cold and warm leads with the view of selling packages and developing partnerships
  • Commission, and undertake research on potential donors and analyse YCI’s programmes and products with a view to making approaches for support
  • Investigate/develop new sources of funding from organisations including YMCAs across the UK, Europe and internationally

4.High value donor/partnership development

  • With the support of the Senior Major Partnerships Coordinator develop a healthy pipeline of high value donor/partnerships, including YMCAs, through building oninitiatives including ‘Friends of Y Care International’
  • Provide excellent stewardship to cultivate key donors/partners including YMCAs through timely communications, first class reporting and extra initiatives including events to ensure high donor satisfaction
  • Represent YCI at key networking events and oversee YCI events where applicable; deputising for Senior Management Team as necessary
  • Liaise with YCI’s CEO and Trustees to effectively steward high value donors/partnerships

5.Marketing and relationship management

  • Working with the Communications Manager, produce marketing materials, plans for disseminating the materials effectively, and to deliver against those plans for new donors and business interests
  • Collaborate closely with all relevantYCI programme and partner staff to ensure information about our work is effectively captured, packaged and new products support materials are produced
  • Attend networking events and conferences, identify potential partners, source and generate leads and develop new and existing markets
  • Maintain and deepen relationships with key stakeholders, influencers, and networks to win new business for YCI

6.Financial & Key Performance Indicator reporting and accountability

  • Develop and deliver annual budgets and plans for relevant income streams as well as reforecasting reporting as required
  • Meet monthly key performance indicator reporting requirements

Scope of role & limits of authority

The Business Development Manager is required to:

  • Work within the framework of the annual objectives set by the Fundraising & Marketing Director and SMT
  • Take responsibility for their own work and for achieving the agreed tasks and objectives
  • Effectively line manage the Senior Trusts & Foundations Coordinator, Senior Major Partnerships Coordinator and other roles as recruited in line with YCI’s policies and values
  • Be an active and effective member of the Fundraising & Marketing team
  • Lead on developing strategic relationships with relevant external stakeholders that provide technical or specialist support for business development
  • Work with the SMT, and other key staff to win new business and partnerships for YCI
  • Work closely with all YCI’s staff to secure effective fundraising products and materials and provide accurate information as required
  • Ensure the database (Raiser’s Edge) is regularly updated and effectively utilised to develop income pipelines and to provide management and financial reports
  • Perform all other duties relevant to the post as required by the Fundraising & Marketing Director and CEO
  • Keep abreast of fundraising developments across the charity sector through available information, liaising with staff in other charities etc.
  • Model YCI values and maintain relationships of trust with all YCI stakeholders
  • Work out of hours on occasion and as business deadlines dictate

YCI requires an energetic, diligent and target driven person with excellent relationship and communication skills and the determination to win support from existing and new sources of support and financial investment, to drive forwards a new business development strategy.

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • A university degree or equivalent in professional experience
  • Professional qualification and/or training in fundraising
  • Demonstrable knowledge of YCI’s focus on youth enterprise and employment. Including our thematic approaches of: livelihoods; health and wellbeing; communities affected by conflict or violence; youth justice; disaster response and preparedness (desirable)

Experience and Skills

  • Significant experience in raising large multi-year funding, including six figure donations, from a range of donors including trusts & foundations, corporate, high value donors/partnerships, andexperience of raising funds for international development programmes
  • Excellent track record of developing new donor relationships and securing income from new donors and organisations
  • Effective relationship development with senior contacts in organisations including high value donors
  • Fundraising/investment product development for a range of supporters including writing high quality fundraising applications, donor reports and case study materials
  • Excellent track record of writing and/or adapting budgets for applications and proposals and financial report writing
  • Experience of leading meetings and presentations for donors and leading funding prospect research
  • Strong account management skills
  • Line management experience and understanding of effective management techniques
  • Excellent command of the English language including high level oral and written communication skills for sales/influencing/negotiating/networking, report and proposal writing
  • Excellent financial and budgeting skills with a confident working knowledge of Excel
  • Good computer literacy skills, high level of competency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint) and ability to use a fundraising database (Raisers Edge)

Position:Business Development Manager

Location:London

Term:Full-time, Permanent

Salary:£37,500–£40,000per annum, inclusive of London Weighting, and dependent on experience

Working Hours:Working Monday to Friday. Normal office hours are 0900 to 1700; core time is 1000 to 1600. Flexible working arrangements/working from home may be agreed with line management/Management team

Annual Leave:25 days per annum in each year commencing 1April to 31 March (pro-rata, where employment commences during the year). YCI normally gives additional leave days (three days, normally between Christmas and New Year)

Probation Period: 6 months

Notice Period: 4 weeks during probation; then 3 months after probation

Pension Scheme:Access to stakeholder pension scheme after completion of probation

Life Assurance Scheme:Available, in the event that membership of the Pension Scheme is not taken. Life Assurance Scheme is free of charge.

Y Care Sickness Pay:Up to 12 weeks in any rolling year (pro-rata if employment commences during the year)
