Student Supervision:
Beginning at 8:00 a.m., an adult is in the school yard supervising students as they arrive at school. Please do not drop students earlier than 8:00 a.m., since they will be unsupervised.
Terry Fox Walk:
The Terry Fox Walk is set for Thursday October 2th at 9:00 1:40 pm.The children will walk around the school area to remember this great Canadian hero. Please give $5 for Fox!! Donations will be sent to the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research.
Thanksgiving Food Drive ! The Me toWe team will be collecting non-perishable food items. For example: canned good, cereal, Kraft dinner, tuna etc.
We will be collecting until October 10st and donating the food to the food bank at church.

Lockdown Drill:
In partnership with the Toronto Police Services, the TCDSB has developed emergency procedures that are to be initiated should a high-risk incident take place in or around our school. The purpose of a Lockdown Drill is to prepare the students so that in the event of a real situation, they will be able to react in a practiced, prearranged manner that will allow for a sense of calmness, control and feelings of safety.
During the month of October, and again in the spring of 2014, we will be conducting our Lockdown Drills. Procedures will be reviewed with the students and they will be told ahead of time that the drill will take place. They will be reassured that there is no actual danger present.
Secondary School
Open Houses:
The list of 2014 TCDSB Secondary School Fall Open House dates for Grade 8 students is available on-line at the TCDSB website:
All Open Houses begin at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated. Grade 7 & 8 students and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend one or more of the scheduled open houses to learn more about the various programs, services and activities as they prepare for a Catholic secondary school education.
Secondary School Applications:
High school applications will be distributed to Gr. 8 students at the end of October and will be due back at school by the first week of November.
Halloween Costumes:
Students are invited to wear Halloween Costumes on Thursday, October 31st. However, NO WEAPONS of any kind are allowed at school. If a costume includes a replica weapon, it must be kept at home. Masks may not be worn but can be brought to show others. There is some risk that Hallowe’en costumes (or parts thereof) may be lost or damaged. Please consider this when deciding to participate or not. As well, many families like to send in treats that day. Please be awarer that treats containing nuts and/or peanuts are not allowed at school. This will help to ensure the safety of those with life-threatening allergies.
CSAC Meetings:
Our next CSAC meeting will take place on ThursdayOctober 23th at 6:00 p.m. All are welcome!
Gratitude:
The virtue for the month of October is ‘Gratitude’. Our assembly is on Wednesday, October 29th @ 10:30 a.m.

Dance-a-Thon:
The annual dance-a-thon will take place in the gym on October 31st. All classes will have a chance to dance and enjoy the atmosphere. Your pledges and donations enable the school to participate in outings, excursions and more. The spending of funds is discussed and agreed upon after all the monies have been collected. This occurs at the November CSAC meeting. Please join us then if you are interested in this process. Last year, the Dance-a-Thon raised $4000.00. This enabled us to subsidize expensive outings, making them more affordable for everyone. CSAC’s goal is to not only meet but beat, last year’s contributions.
Parish News:
- St. Paul’s Christmas Basket Registration will be held on
Tuesday, Nov 4th 9am -11:30am and 1pm -2:30pm
Thursday, Nov. 6th, 9am-11:30am and 1pm-2:30pm
Please bring proof of ID and address for everyone you have in your household and proof of income.
- Pet Blessings will be held this coming Saturday, October 4, the Feast of St. Francis; we will be blessing pets at St. Paul’s from 10 am till noon. All families with pets are invited to come and celebrate God’s goodness in this way.
- Children’s Worship
At the 11 am mass every Sunday from now until Christmas, there will be a children’s Worship. This is for the children in JK, SK, grade 1 and
2. The children come into mass with their family and are invited together downstairs for the first part of mass. We encourage all families with children in that age group to try to participate.
- Classroom Visits
by the parish will begin in October. Unfortunately, Sr. Nida has commitments with her community which will demand a lot of her time. So, Fr. Frank will be the only visitor each month. We aer going to talk each month about the miracles of Jesus.
- A big thank you to the grade 8 students who helped out with the festival on Sept. 28th. Their participation in events and superb playing of the steel drums was appreciated by everyone.
- First Communion and Confirmation Letters
Students in grade 2 through 6 will be bringing home first communion preparation letter in the near future. Grade 2 is the year that first communion is first considered, but it has been delayed, we are happy to celebrate it later. Confirmation is celebrated in grade 8 or later. These letters will explain how families are to proceed to prepare for these sacraments.

Nutrition Program
We are off to an excellent start and the children are truly enjoying the healthy snacks being delivered to their classroom every day. Thank you for your $5 contribution per month and thanks to those who decided to pay upfront for the whole year—this has helped us greatly! Many thanks to Ms Carmie and her volunteers for making this possible!

Cold Weather: now that autumn is here, please make sure that your children are dressed appropriately for the weather. They will be going outside to play at recess and during the lunch hour. If your child claims to have lost his or her coat, please direct them to the office where lost and found items are returned. Please help us out by writing their name in permanent marker on the neck tag.
Spirit Wear: we are still accepting orders for the hoodie and athletic pants. We need to order 60 sets in order to keep this great deal! We are close but not quite at 60 yet. Please send in your order promptly should you decide that you want the hoodie and/or the pants.
They are uniform compliant and very warm and cozy!
The hoodie is $20 and the pants are $14. Adult sizes are $23 and $16. We have samples in the office to do the sizing properly.
