What:Three-day workshop featuring Paul Deeming, M.S., C.I., on strategies for improving Support Service Provider (SSP) services for adults who are deaf-blind (both Deaf or hard of hearing AND blind or low vision)

The #13 bus, Liliha-Puunui, stops at Vineyard Blvd. and Liliha St. Walk east on Vineyard to Aala St., and the location is on the Mauka-Diamond Head corner.
The #4 bus, Nuuanu-Dowsett, stops near the corner of Vineyard Blvd. and Nuuanu St. From there walk west on Vineyard Blvd. one block to Aala St. Turn right at the next full intersection, which is Aala St., and the location is on the Mauka-Diamond Head corner.
Driving to 200 North Vineyard Blvd., Honolulu
Take H-1 to exit 22, Vineyard Blvd. Take Vineyard Blvd. west (toward Ewa Beach) to #200, which is on the Mauka-Daiamond Head corner of Vineyard Blvd. From downtown, take Beretania Street or Ala Moana Blvd. west (toward Ewa Beach) to Nuuanu Street. Turn right on Nuuanu St. to Vineyard Blvd. Turn left on Vineyard Blvd. to the next full intersection at Aala St. 200 N. Vineyard will be on the Mauka-Diamond Head corner of N. Vineyard Blvd. and Aala St.

RID CEUs for Certified Interpreters
RID certified interpreters wishing to earn RID CEUs, contact Debbie Jackson at byFebruary 12, 2015to receive a PINRA form to sign and return prior to the beginning of the workshop. CEUs can only be awarded to interpreters who contact Debbie prior byFebruary 12, 2015. This procedure will enable participating interpreters to gain training credit from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
About Paul Deeming
Paul Deeming, M.S., C.I. has been working in the interpreting field since 1992 and certified since 1997. He earned a BFA in Theatre in 1983 and an MS in Deaf Education in 1988, both from the University of Oklahoma. He has worked in a variety of settings including mental health, medical, rehabilitation, post-secondary education, religious and performing arts.
Deeming specializes in working with deafblind consumers and earned a certificate in the DeafBlind Specialist Training Program from NorthernIllinoisUniversity in 1994. He was a frequent interpreter, SSP (Support Services Provider) and presenter at the American Association of the Deaf-Blind’s conventions. He has also provided trainings for such organizations as the Minnesota Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (MRID) and the Helen Keller National Center in New York.
In addition to interpreting and training in the private sector, he works full-time as a services and training coordinator for DeafBlind Services Minnesota, LLC. Other employment experiences have included working as a vocational rehab counselor for blind and deafblind consumers, deafblind advocate, and communications specialist/interpreter in the mental health setting.
He is a member of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and its Minnesota chapter (MRID), the American Association of the Deaf-Blind (AADB), the Minnesota DeafBlind Association (MDBA), and was named MDBA’s Honorary Member of the Year in 2001 and Volunteer of the Year in 2004. In the fall of 2014, he was named “Member of the Year” by the MRID. He was a founding member and former board member of the DeafArts Club of Minnesota. He served on the board and as newsletter editor for ADARA (the American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association) for 12 years and was awarded theirFrederick C. Schreiber Awardrecognizes outstanding contributions to ADARA.
