ABSTRACT

Our project automatic car washing is a PLC based project. A PLC is a programmable logical controller which is a type of microcontroller. Our project is a prototype in which a car enters a washing station and automatically gets cleaned up. We have used various components in this project such as conveyer belt, sensors, dc motor, brushes and dryer. All these components are controlled using PLC.

The main aim of this project is to use less water, more efficient washing. Practically at home we use 150 gallons of water but using this process on 35 gallons of water gets used up. Also washing vehicles with hand produces tiny scratches which is overcomed using this method. Hand washing does not clean up the car completely but using this process we can clean up the car upto 95%.

INTRODUCTION AND HISTORY :

Automatic Car Washing is a PLC based project. The first car wash using conveyer was opened in Hollywood (USA) in 1940. This system has winch system which was used in pulling system. This was the replacement of pushing now days latest advantages in science have made it possible to achieve great reliability and efficiency in the automatic car washing system. PLC plays a very important role in the system which is used for automation. This process is very common in developed countries. Our project is based on cyclic process which provides more than 95% cleaning.

CLASSIFICATION OF AUTOMATIC CAR WASHING SYSTEM:

  1. SELF SERVE CAR WASH.
  2. HAND WASH.
  3. DRIVE WAY WASHING.
  4. EXTERIOR CONVEYER CAR WASH.

COMPONENTS OF AUTOMATIC CAR WASHING SYSTEM AND THERE QUANTITY:

There are various components used in our project. The most important is the aluminium casing on which the whole projected is mounted. We have also used a conveyer belt which is rolled over to three pulleys connected to the aluminium case. A DC motor is used to rotate those pulleys. A cooling fan is used for drying purposes. We have used two aluminium stands to which a proximity sensor is connected. The main component of the project is a PLC and SMPS which are also connected.

WORKING

Firstly we use SMPS (switch mode power supply) to convert electrical power efficiently. SMPS transfers power from a source like main power. Now this power enters into PLC (programmable logical controller) which is a digital computer used in industries for typical industrial electromechanical processes. There are multiple arrangements of inputs and outputs in PLC which can be digital or analog. It is an example of hard real time system. Now after this the whole process is very simple. In this process we use D.C. motor as we use in a traction system. Solenoid valve is used for dropping the soap water for cleaning purpose. Brushing system is used for cleaning purpose. Proximity sensors are used for sensing the vehical which is to be washed. Cooling fans are also used in this system for drying purpose.

RATING AND MATERIAL OF COMPONENTS

The DC motor used in this project gives a supply voltage of 24v and 30 rpm for conveyer belt. The solenoid valve used han an operating voltage of 24v DC. The conveyer belt used has a length of approx 3.5m and is made up of rubber. The stand used on which the whole project is mounted is made up of aluminium.

ADVANTAGES:

  1. This process helps in saving water.
  2. This car washing system is more efficient and relevant as compared to others.
  3. This system is easy to operate.
  4. In this process we can reclaim the water used foe washing.

DISADVANTAGES:

  1. Its primary cost is very high.
  2. Use of chemical shampoos in this process is very harmful.

CONCLUSION:

Our project might not have a large scope in India currently. But in most of the developed countries it is applied in large scale. Since India has a fast growth rate, our project can be implemented in the next 5-10 years. Our Project is based on cyclic process which gives more than 90% efficiency.
