Welcome to Mrs. Davis’s class! I truly believe math canbe a fun and an exciting subject. Youwill be successful if you work hard and keep up with your responsibilities,which are outlined in this syllabus. I expect students who are willing to give 100% effort at all times and come to me for help if they fall behind. I am looking forward to another wonderful year at Nease!

Materials

Please bring the followingrequired materials to every class.

  • A folder or binder to keep handouts (separate from other classes)
  • A spiral notebook where all warm-ups and notes should be kept
  • Lots of #2 pencils with erasers (Work completed in pen will not be accepted!)
  • A graphing calculator -TI-84 Plus is preferred (Note: Please see me before you purchase a new calculator!)
  • College-ruled notebook paper
  • 4x4 Graph Ruled Spiral notebook or 4x4 graph paper
  • Pre-Calculus Textbook

The following materials are optional, but always appreciated for Mrs. Davis’s classroom:

  • Bic Mechanical Pencils (#2 Medium 0.7 mm)
  • College Ruled Notebook Paper
  • Tissues
  • Low-Odor Expo Dry-Erase Markers and Dry Erasers

Student Responsibilities

All school rules will be strictly enforced.Cell phones will be confiscated and turned into the dean.

Attendance

Good attendance is critical for your success, especially in this core academiccourse. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to complete any missed assignments upon your return to class. I suggest finding a buddy in class and exchanging contact information.

UNEXCUSED absences will be penalized with ½ credit for any assignments missed during the absence per district policy. All quizzes and tests will be made up the day you return to class, even if you missed a “review” day.

Punctuality

You must be in your assigned seat when the bell rings or you are considered tardy. If you enter class late, proceed quietly to your assigned seat and begin your work; do not interrupt the class. 3tardies – morning detention (8:30-9:00 in A108), 4+ tardies – referral to dean (consequences include ISS, Saturday school, etc.)

  3. Respect and work cooperatively with others.
  4. Stay on task.
  5. Follow all school rules.

Parent Responsibilities

  • Encourage your student to attend class regularly and on-time, as well as participate in all classwork.
  • Provide a quiet environment at home for students to complete assignments and study.
  • Ask your student what he/she is currently learning and ask them to show you their notes, explain a concept to you, or work a problem for you.
  • Check grades online via Home Access Center (HAC) to observe your student’s progress weekly!
  • Contact Mrs. Davis at any time if you have questions or concerns.

Teacher Responsibilities

  • Present clear, well-planned lessons and use time wisely.
  • Provide assistance with assignments and provide help sessions.
  • Provide evaluation of a student’s progress through regular assessments.
  • Maintain an atmosphere conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • Be available to discuss questions or concerns.

Grading

Grades will consist of 10% homework, 30% quizzes, and 60% tests and will be scored individually on a point basis. Grades will not be curved.

Grading Scale: A (89.5%-100%); B (79.5%-89.4%); C (69.5%-79.4%); D (59.5%-69.4%); F (Below 59.4%)

Pre-Calculus is a semester course in which two ½ credits can be earned (one per semester). The breakdown is as follows:

Progress Reports/Scholarship Warnings

Progress reports are sent out mid-quarter. You are responsible for frequently checking your grade online. However, grade printouts are available upon request. Please give 24 hour notice.
