April 17, 2014Don Pedro Lake Low Water Operational ChangesPublic Information

Despite 2014 being a third consecutive dry year, Don Pedro Lake will continue to offera wide variety of recreation opportunities throughout the year. Changes to operations in response to the lower water levels will be as follows:

  • Fleming Meadows:
  • The swimming lagoon and all camping areas at Fleming Meadows will operate as usual.
  • The Fleming Meadows launch ramp is projected to experience a reduction in width from five lanes to two lanes in mid-June.
  • The Lake Don Pedro Marina and associated Trading Post Store and Snack Shack at the swimming lagoon will operate as usual.
  • Blue Oaks:
  • The “A” partial hook-up camping and the Group Camping areas will operate as usual.
  • The “B”, “C”, and “D” tent camping areas will be open for holiday weekends and as needed for over flow camping.
  • The Blue Oaks launch ramp is projected for closure mid-May due to low water conditions.
  • Unimproved shoreline access projected to be available all year.
  • Moccasin Point:
  • The “A”, “B” and “C” full hook-up and tent camping areas will operate as usual.
  • The “D” and “E” tent camping areas will be open as needed for over flow camping.
  • The Moccasin Point launch ramp is projected for closure at the end of May/first of June due to low water conditions.
  • Moccasin Creek will continue to flow through the Moccasin Bay area that is normally lake during higher water conditions.
  • The Moccasin Point Marina is projected to move its floating facility and associated houseboat moorings to the west end of the lake (near Blue Oaks/Fleming Meadows) in mid-May/early June. A land based store will continue to provide ice, firewood, drinks, fishing gear etc. at Moccasin Point.
  • Unimproved launch for shallow hulled boats projected available until July 1st.
  • Lake Surface:
  • Several 5 MPH zones and floating restroom facilities will be moved and reconfigured with the dropping lake elevation.
  • The area from Fleming Meadows west to the dam will become a 5 MPH zone due to temporary presence of boat moorings.
  • Tuolumne River Arm of the lake will become shallower and shorter as the lake recedes, with running river near the mouth of Moccasin Bay projected in October.
  • Fireworks Show:
  • Due to the reduction of boat launching to single two-lane ramp at Fleming Meadows and the diminished available surface acreage on the water in the fireworks fall-out zone, there will not be a fireworks show in 2014.
