MANDATORY ANNUAL EMPLOYEE TRAINING – FAQ
Technical Issues
1. How do I get to Blackboard? You can go in through the EVMS MyPortal page or to https://evms.blackboard.com/ Instructions on how to use Blackboard can be found here.
2. What username and password will I use? You will need your Novell username and password (please be sure you are not adding “@evms.edu”) to log into Blackboard. If you don’t know your Novell password, please see question #4.
3. I am trying to login to Blackboard, but it won’t take my username or password. Many login issues are a result of having an expired or forgotten Novell login. First see if you can log into the EVMS MyPortal site at https://myportal.evms.edu/login/?redir=/ be sure to enter only your username (no @evms.edu) and password. If you cannot log into MyPortal, your Novell login has likely expired and needs to be reset, or you are locked out. Please see question #4.
4. How do I reset my Novell login? If you know your last password you can go to the Novell Portal to change your password. If you don’t know your current Novell password, please email and ask them to reset your Novell password. Once your password is changed, you should be able to get into Blackboard without any issues. If not, please email .
5. What if I’ve never used Blackboard (or I am really rusty)? Instructions for individuals who have never used Blackboard (or those who may be a little rusty) can be found here. If, after following the instructions, you cannot access Blackboard, please contact immediately!
6. There are many courses in my student queue; do I have to take them all? The courses that are subject to this mandatory annual training requirement (see General Training Questions below) are designated with a “(2018)” in the title.
7. What if there are no courses in my student queue or none that have a (2018) in the title and I was hired prior to November 1, 2017? Please email immediately.
General Training Questions
8. Who is required to take this training? All faculty and staff hired prior to November 1, 2017, even if your “home base” is not on the EVMS campus, must take the training. Faculty and staff hired after November 1, 2017, have just taken the training as part of the new hire process and will not be required to take the training again until next year. Residents and students will remain on their normal training schedules.
9. What if I am a standardized patient or other type of transient employee? This training is not required for the following titles “Resident”, “Fellow”, or “Work Study Student”. Everyone else is required to take the training.
10. I’ve worked here “x” years and never had to do training before. Do I seriously have to take this training? Yes. This training has the support of, and direction by, Dr. Homan and the EVMS Board of Visitors and is mandatory for all faculty and staff.
11. Do I have to take this training seriously? We certainly cannot force anyone to take training seriously. Some might consider parts of the training content to be “common sense” and others may consider training as a whole to be a mere “check in the box”. However, the modules contained in the training will provide faculty and staff with a better understanding of their responsibilities as an EVMS employee and help EVMS maintain a safe and professional work environment.
12. When is the training period? The training will open December 18, 2017 and will close March 2, 2018.
13. How will I know what training I need to take? All training will be delivered via Blackboard and you will automatically be enrolled in all courses that you need to take. The courses will have “(2018)” at the end, which is how you will know they are part of annual training.
14. I have a training not listed above in my training queue; do I need to take that? All EVMS training that is required during the mandatory period will have a (2018) designation.
15. What kind of content can I expect from each training course like? All training consists of training materials and a quiz.
16. Will this training be tracked? Absolutely! All training will be tracked by the EVMS Institutional Compliance with individual and departmental progress to be reported to EVMS Senior Management.
17. Who will be considered “non-compliant”? Anyone who fails to complete the training by close of business March 2, 2018 shall be considered non-compliant. All non-compliance will be reported to EVMS Senior Management, Dr. Homan, and the EVMS Board of Visitors.
18. Any advice? Don’t wait until the last minute to start your training!!! You really don’t want to be on the non-compliant list and we can see statistics on when training was started, so there are no good excuses for procrastinators.
Annual Employee Training (2018) Course Content
19. Can I take this training at any time? You can complete the training at any time during the training period (see question #12 above).
20. How long will the Annual Employee training take? That depends on your familiarity with Blackboard and how thoroughly you review the content. The fastest time for our testers was about 30-45 minutes, but the average time for reviewing all content and taking the quizzes, in one single sitting, is about 2 hours. Remember that the modules can be completed in any order and you do not need to complete all modules at once.
21. Do I have to get a certain score on each quiz? Yes. All training courses have a quiz and, with the exception of the Code of Conduct, individuals must complete each quiz with a score of at least 80%. For the Code of Conduct, you much get a score of 100% as it is an acknowledgement.
22. Can I take the quizzes more than once? You can take each quiz up to 3 times. After that, you must contact to have the quiz unlocked.
23. Can I see all of my grades? Yes for the Annual Training course. When you are in the Annual Training (2018) course, click the “See My Grades” tab on the left side.
24. How will I know that I have completed all of my training? When you have taken all quizzes AND receive the required score in the Annual Employee Training (2018) course, you will receive the “Finish Line!” achievement. You can see your achievements by clicking the “My Achievements” tab on the left side of the screen just underneath the “See My Grades” tab. If you are enrolled in other courses, your grades will be posted in those courses.
