LECTURER IN PSYCHOLOGY

The University

Awarded university title in 2012 Bishop Grosseteste University has been offering higher education to students since 1862. The University is an independent Church of England higher education institution.

In 2015-16 there are approximately 1700 full-time undergraduate and PGCE students, with around 400 part-time students, largely on Masters level programmes for teachers. Until the mid-1990s, the University offered only teacher training; it has long enjoyed an excellent local and national reputation for its undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in this field. However, the University diversified more than ten years ago and now offers a varied and growing portfolio of degree level qualifications in the education-related and cultural and creative sectors. There are three academic Schools: the School of Social Sciences; the School of Arts and Humanities and the School of Teacher Development. Potential students may still apply to study for a range of professional and academic awards with Qualified Teacher Status, but may also choose to pursue courses in other educated-related areas or in the arts and humanities.

The University is located close to the historic centre of Lincoln; ten minutes’ walk from the Cathedral, Castle and other Roman and medieval sites. Lincoln is a thriving small city (population around 80,000) with good rail and road links. Housing is affordable and there are good schools both in the city and in nearby villages. Trains from Newark Northgate station (a 20 minute drive from campus) to London King’s Cross are regular, frequent and fast (around 1 hour 15 minutes). There is a station in Lincoln offering local services and regular direct trains to Sheffield and Nottingham.

The University occupies an attractive 18-acre campus which incorporates many green spaces with buildings from every stage of its 150 years of existence. These range from the main building, which retains much of its nineteenth-century character, through to the modern sport and fitness centre opened in October 2005. It therefore offers many of the charms of a traditional university alongside the most modern facilities.

Services available to students and staff include computer suites, a recently extended library, dining room, shop, licensed bar, Sport and Fitness Centre, common rooms, campus-wide wireless network, free off-street car parking (subject to meeting criteria for permit and availability of space), and Chaplaincy. The small size of the institution makes it possible to offer a very supportive community where staff and students get to know each other well. Also, having forged links with the local community over many generations, the University is able to be a variety of exciting and rewarding placement opportunities. These are just some of the reasons why Bishop Grosseteste University has very high success rates in terms of academic results and employment.
