Dear Parents,

We have had quite a few issues with cell phones and other electronic devices being used during school hours. We’ve also had some issues with cell phones being kept during testing. It is best that on testing days students do not bring electronics, of any form, to school. This may cause disruptions and/or irregularities to occur that could otherwise be avoided. As a reminder, here is the school district’s cell phone/electronics policy. Thank you for your continued support, assistance,, and all that you do!

All electronic devices (cell phones, pagers, mp3 players, iPods or iPads, camcorders and cameras, tape recorders, computers, or electronic devices or games) must be turned off between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Such devices may not be visible in the pocket of a jacket or pants; item must be completely put away and out of sight. If an IDEA Public Schools employee observes a student using any electronic or telecommunication device (including a cell phone) during the school day or at a school-related activity, or if such item is visible during the school day, the employee will confiscate the device. If the student and parent have executed a waiver permitting the student to possess an electronic communication device at school, IDEA Public Schools officials may power on and search the device is there is reasonable cause to believe that the device has been used in the transmission or reception of communications prohibited by law, policy, or regulation. Any disciplinary action will be in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. These guidelines apply even if the item in use is not the property of the student found in violation of the policy. IDEA Public Schools reserves the right to dispose of a confiscated paging device in any reasonable manner, or charge the owner of the device or the student’s parent an administrative fee not to exceed $15 before releasing the device. IDEA Public Schools will not be responsible for damage to loss or theft of confiscated items.
