Letter to Younger Self
This assignment is similar to one many of you completed in eighth grade but as you complete it now I want you to consider the last four years of your life, of high school, and how they have changed the person you are today. Based on your reflective essays some of you have had a ton of experiences you would never have seen coming four years ago. Some of them were good and exciting experiences and some of them were painful, heart wrenching experience—and still you live. So as you write this letter to your younger and past self I don’t want you to focus on length but instead think about content and what will make the letter meaningful. Imagine that you really could send a letter back in time to yourself as a freshmen or even an eighth grader and think about what you would like to say now. I’ve listed some questions below to help you come up with ideas but ultimately, you know yourself best so just go for it!
What in your life is different now than four or more years ago? Has your family structure changed? What about your love life experiences? ______
What has been something that has happened in the last four years or so that you have been excited or proud of? Did you see your favorite band in concert, learn how to play an instrument, or win a sporting event? What else? ______
What has been something in the last four years that has been difficult or sad? Has a friend hurt or fallen out with you? Did you lose a sport or a loved one? What else?
______
What has been unexpected or funny? Have you been pulled over for speeding in a particular place, done something you said you never would, had an embarrassing moment in front of lots of people?______
