Homeschoolers at the Library

October 2017

Space Cadet Academy Resource List

What We Did This Month

·  We started with an icebreaker game, Space Cards Match-Up

(http://www.prekinders.com/space-picture-word-cards/). Students tried to find their space card match.

·  We watched a story from space! The Incredible Intergalactic Journey Home can be found at the Story Time From Space website: http://storytimefromspace.com/stories/the-incredible-intergalactic-journey-home/.

·  We also read Astronaut Handbook by Meghan McCarthy to help us prepare to become and astronaut! This book gives a great overview of life as an astronaut.

·  A Gravity and Weight on Other Planets activity

(https://www.teachervision.com/planets/gravity-weight-other-planets) helped us see how gravity would affect our weight if we weren’t on Earth.

·  Star Wheels found at https://www.lawrencehallofscience.org/do_science_now/science_apps_and_activities/star_wheels helped us learn about stars and constellations in the universe.

·  For our science experiment, we made Alka-Seltzer Rockets (https://www.imaginationstationtoledo.org/educator/activities/rockets) out of film canisters, Alka-Seltzer tablets, and water!

·  Finally, everyone made a squeeze rocket out of a plastic bottle and straws to take home with them.
