CLASS TITLE:SENIOR HUMAN SERVICES COUNSELOR SUPERVISOR - F/C - SES

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work supervising Human Services Counselors II or III - F/C and/or other professional level employees providing case management, guidance and counseling to mentally deficient, elderly, emotionally disturbed, and/or indigent clients and their families; and/or supervising the counseling in an alcoholism treatment program. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution. The primary duty of the employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class is to spend a majority of time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions.

  • Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Plans work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
  • Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met.
  • Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
  • Directs the work of employees to ensure best use of time and resources.
  • Provides consultation to community organizations and agencies relative to the aging process and the specific needs of elderly and disabled adults.
  • Evaluates appropriateness of service through quality assurance visits to clients' homes.
  • Actively participates in planning for and coordinating services to elderly and disabled adults.
  • Develops unit training and procedures for the provision of services to elderly and disabled adults.
  • Provides statewide consultation in maternity and family planning, pediatrics, and other health related services.
  • Develops guidelines and procedures for providing social services to the families in maternity health and family planning programs.
  • Provides consultation to regional and local health department staff relative to social services and the coordination of departmental social services.
  • Evaluates patients' usage of family planning programs through field visits.
  • Develops a specialized alcoholic program providing clinical social services activities for treatment of alcoholics.
  • Surveys the need for hospitalization of alcoholics within a region and formulates the institutional alcoholic rehabilitation program.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating an in-patient alcoholism treatment program.
  • Performs related work as required.
