NOTICE OF CHANGE

SEPARATION OF VTA AERONAUTICAL CHARTS

CALGARY AND EDMONTON, ALBERTA

NAV CANADA has completed an aeronautical study of the Edmonton airspace. This study was prompted by the closure of the Edmonton City Centre Airport and to address recommendations resulting from the Alberta Airspace and Services Project (AASP).

A recommendation from this study included separating the Edmonton and Calgary Visual Flight Rules Terminal Area (VTA) aeronautical charts that are currently published back-to back. Separating the VTAs will allow the depiction of special procedures and areas of particular interest or complexity on the back of the VTA as per the Toronto and Vancouver VTAs.

A separate Calgary VTA (AIR1904, Edition 20), including the Calgary VNC (AIR5005, Edition 24), will be available early April 2014 and will reflect data changes effective 03 April 2014.

A separate Edmonton VTA (AIR1906, Edition 20), including the Edmonton VNC (AIR5015, Edition 26) will be available late May 2014 and will reflect data changes effective 29 May 2014.

For flights in the Edmonton area, pilots should continue to refer to the Calgary/Edmonton VTA Edition 19 until the new, separate Edmonton VTA is available in May. Note that a NOTAM is in effect for interim changes to the Edmonton airspace and ATC services as a result of the City Centre closure. These interim changes, including a map sketch, are also published in a Notice of Change available on the NAV CANADA web site.

Permanent airspace changes will be effective 29 May 2014 and will be depicted on the new Edmonton VTA. A Notice of Change and AIC depicting the 29 May 2014 changes in Edmonton Airspace will be available for review January 2014 and 06 March 2014 respectively.
