Responsibilities
Job Summary
The academic health system is a grouping of health care providers and academic institutions that seek to work in partnership to advance health and wellbeing in Qatar. Research is key to achieving this goal. As a founding member of the AHS, Hamad Medical Corporation seeks to employ staff to collaborate in undertaking world leading research. The AEDoN Research will be expected to lead aprogramme of world-class research as part of a multidisciplinary group. They will be responsible for income generation, management of their research group and ensuring high quality outputs. They will promote their research internally and externally and ensuring the impact of their research on clinical practice will also be a key part of their role. Level of grant income and quality of outputs are key metrics in the role and it would be expected that over a 5 year period they would consistently generate substantial external income and produce (typically 4) outputs that would be considered to be of the highest international standard in terms of originality, significance and rigor (determined by peer review). She/he will also provide supervision and mentorship to post graduate research students, and other members of their research group. Research across the AHS is conducted to the highest possible international standards and they will be expected to ensure adherence to guidelines for Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Research Practices (GRP).
Common Responsibilities
This job description should be read in conjunction with the HMC Nursing Scope of Practice, the HMC Competency Framework for the Research Track, HMC Code of Leadership Behaviours and the HMC Code of Professional Behaviour and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives.
AEDoN’s of Research are primarily responsible to the Assistant Executive Director of Research (Corporate Nursing).
Administrative
  • Supervises literature reviewing and evidence synthesis
  • Supervises the development of research protocols
  • Supervises the preparation and submission of documents for research funding
  • Supervises the preparation and submission of documents to the Joint Institutional Review Board (JIRB)
  • Supervises the production of case record forms, study master and site files and other study documentation
  • Leads the writing of reports and publications emanating from the study
  • Chairs and attends trial management and steering committees as required
  • Attends committees and meetings as appropriate
Field work
  • Ensures confidentiality and safety of research participants at all times
  • Supports the setting up of research sites
  • Strictly adheres to the approved project protocol
  • Monitors recruitment, to time and target, of research participants
  • Monitors data entry and checking
Accountability
  • Monitors accuracy, quality and timeliness of research reports and data related to research projects
  • Effective and timely communication of information to members of the research group
  • The post holder will be required to adhere to research legislative and regulatory requirements including HMC and SCH policies, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and International Conference on Harmonization – Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP)
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the research team and immediate supervisor

Essential Education:
  • PhD
  • Portfolio of internationally excellent publications

Preferred Education:

Required certification/licensure:
  • Valid nursing license from the country of origin AND be eligible for license in the Supreme Council for Health State of Qatar
  • Relevant life support/resuscitation certificates preferred, but there will opportunity to undertake as part of orientation

Experience
Essential Experience:
  • 10 years recent research experience in a relevant nursing field
  • Track record of publications in major peer reviewed journal
  • Has generated substantial external grant income
  • Professorial experience leading a research group

Skills
Language Skills:
  • English – reading, writing, spoken – proficient (essential)
  • Arabic (preferred)
Computer Skills:
  • Excellent computer skills including statistical packages (STATA, SPSS)
