Mega Event at Gwader

A mega event was organized with the theme of “Welcome Community Midwife” on 12 Jan, 2010, in Gwader. Director General Health Services-Balochistan,Dr.Amanullah Khan was the chief guest. The ceremony was honorably witness by Dr. Nabeela Ali Chief of Party JSI-PAIMAN and Dr. Amanullah Khan Sr. Director Health and Nutrition SC, National Coordinator National MNCH program -Dr Farooq Akhtar, government officials, Director program & Grants JSI along with the JSI team, senior members of SCUS teams and community representatives. A gathering of 353 participated in the ceremony.

A female specialist surgical camp was also organized at Gwadar by PAIMAN from 10-14, Jan, 2010. On first day the female OPD was conducted at two private hospitals, NationalMedicalCenter and CoastalMedicalCenter, which are part of Public Private Partnership.Patients were treated and screening was conducted for operable cases. During the remaining 4 days OPD was conducted at DHQ Hospital Gwadar and the surgical campwas run under the supervision of Dr. Sher Shah Syed, President Society of Gynecologist and Obstetricians Pakistan. 1297 patients attended OPD, Lab. services were provided to 180 patients and 36 ultrasounds were conducted. The surgeries included Abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies and V.V. Fistula repairs. DG health services, Additional Secretary Health, National Manager MNCH Islamabad and Dr. Nabeela Ali COP-PAIMAN also visited the surgical camp and appreciated the work.

Dr. Nabeela Ali COP JSI – PAIMAN along with Dr. Nazeer Bana EDO-H Gwadar and Dr. Shuaib Khan Director Program&Grants visited BHU Jiwani on Jan-12,2010 and took important decisions regarding civil works and the establishing of Well Baby Clinic to improve the working and performance of the BHU.DG-HS, Add. Sec. H, National Coordinator MNCH Islamabad and Dr. Nabeela COP PAIMAN, EDO-H Gwader also visited the DHQ hospital on 13th Jan. 2010 and D.G. Health inaugurated the Well Baby Clinic established by PAIMAN and later chaired a meeting where decisions were taken for the improving the services of the hospital by appointing Gynecologist and anesthetist. COP JSI-PAIMAN extended all possible support in it.

Coordination for RESAI project

The RESAI Project partners Meeting of PAIMAN Project was held on January 14, 2010 at Gwader. The meeting was organized by JSI-PAIMAN office Balochistan and chaired by Dr. Amanullah Khan, DGHS Balochistan. The working of RESAI project in Jaffarabad was discussed and Jaffarabad was represented by Dr. Shah Baksh Mastoi EDO H Jaffarabad and SCJaffarabad. Dr. Nabeela Ali COP – JSI PAIMAN facilitated the proceedings and all the decisions regarding working of 10 ambulances at 10 HFs of Jaffarabad were taken with consensus.

Assistance in Implementation of DHIS

Followed by the nominationand orientation of district DHIS support officers in 8 zones of 24 PAIMAN districts,Contech initiated DHIS trainings forhealth facility staff of district Rawalpindi and Jhelumfrom 11-16 Jan 2010. The trainings were organized for already trained and new un-trained health care providers, the trainings were monitored by Contech experts to ensure the quality. On the other hand qualitative data collection was completed in PAIMAN original districts. Data entry and analysis is in process.

Sharing the Achievements

A 13 member team from selected health facilities of PAIMAN-FATA made an observational visit of PAIMAN Health Care Waste Management project at RHC Mandra and THQ hospital Gujar Khan on 12-Jan 2010. FOM North Punjab Dr. Nadeem Hassan along with the team arranged the visit and presented a comprehensive working of the Health Care Waste Management system installed at both the health facilities.

CapacityBuilding of Health Care Providers

Four days training workshop of "BFHI" (baby friendly hospital initiative) was conducted atCivil HospitalDadu,18 HCPswere trained. CMINCI trainings were organized by Save the Children for LHWs in PAIMAN districts, during the reporting week.
