Wirral Disabled Marine Association

'We are pleased to welcome WDMA (Wirral Disabled Marine Association) as an affiliate group of WKSC. Many of our members will have seen WDMA out on the lake on summer Sundays. We now look forward to welcoming their members and carers to use the clubhouse and to participate in club activities.

Any club members who would be interested to know more about the activities of WDMA, or to help in assisting them, are invited to contact Wendy Jones, Lynne Pengelly or Peter Williams in the first instance.’

News from the Captain.

The club has purchased a new tractor, the controls of which are quite different from the old one. If you were previously on the drivers list, please do not drive the new tractor until you have had a familiarisation refresher course, otherwise the insurance will be invalidated. We also intend to trim down the number of members authorised to drive. Your co-operarion in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Sailing / Training

The Council have closed the lake on Health and Safety grounds because of what appears to be high concentration of Bacteria. They are trying to do some remedial work to kill it off but may have to drain the Lake. Subject to the lake reopening, the next 7 days schedule of races are:

Sam Mc Dougall and Jean-Louis Simons took part in the Inland Championships. The championship was part of a series of ranking event and attracted a very competitve fleet of 34 Finns. A total of 8 races were sailed, 4 B2B on Saturday followed by another 4 B2B on Sunday. Full results can be found here. Many congratulations to Sam who finished a creditabe 20th in his first ever Finn open meeting and went away with a £20.- voucher for his efforts. Jean-Louis finished 14th overall.

We apologise for the delay in getting the handbooks printed however this has been due to problems linking our software to that used by the printer. The problem arose following the theft of the computer in the office. However, thanks to Mike Mayhew, this has now been resolved and the handbooks will be available for collection shortly; we will advise further in due course.

Call to get OnBoard!
A newly reviewed and restructured Onboard programme ready to launch this Saturday (16th April).

The course will take youngsters through the RYA stages, leading to the award of nationally accredited sailing certificates at the end of the 10 week programme. The certificates are a significant achievement. Instructors sign off each skill as you complete it and, once completed, your certificate can be of use in other areas of your study or activities such as PE at school, or the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Log Books to record progress will be issued to all participants. We are looking to provide 18 spaces across the beginner and intermediate range for Saturday morning sessions. Each session will run from 10.00am until 12.30pm. The excellent value cost for this training is £90 per place. Please book your places on WKSC WebCollect, the link for which can be found on the WKSC Web site under “Forthcoming events”. We are extending an offer to “turn up and try” for the first two weeks, so I look forward to seeing you there. Please contact Steve Jardine r more information.

2016 MONDAY EVENING SAILING PROGRAMME

On May 9th we will be starting the third season of our very popular Monday evening summer training programme for any adults wishing to learn or improve their sailing.

This programme is for WKSC members, although we can accommodate a few non- members. The cost is £30 for members for the entire 16 week programme, or £35 for non-members which will cover the first 6 weeks only, so if you are already a club member and know someone you would like to introduce to sailing this is a perfect – and very low cost - opportunity.

We provide the boats and the training, and there is always cheap but excellent food available afterwards which needs to be booked the previous week.

It’s all very informal.

Please go to the club website and click the link on “Forthcoming Events” to book, or simply come along on May 9th to the first shore based session where we assess who wants to take part, and what resources we need to have in place. (Please note that there will be no food available on that first evening).

If you have any queries, please contact one of the WKSC members shown below who will do their best to help:

Steve Jardine

Graeme Mc

Alan

Mike de St

Plus - Calling all helpers for 2016!

As in previous seasons, all instructors, trainers and helpers are again very welcome – this programme can’t take place without you. We look forward to seeing you on May 9th, but in the meanwhile please contact any of the above you have any questions.

Yard

The boat storage forms are available from the websilte on

Due to the space in our yard being at a premium, we would ask all boat owners to remove their road trailer from the yard and avoid storing the road trailer under the dinghies. Failure to comply will incur a surcharge of £25.00 and the trailer will be removed to an area behind the boat shed, where a charge of £25.00 per month will continue to be incurred.

Customers and publicans love Tribute as it's light, hoppy, zesty, easy to drink and consistently delicious. The zesty orange and grapefruit flavours are balanced with biscuit malt for this superb Cornish classic.

Lost Property

In an attempt to make things easier for Joan, our very helpful cleaning lady, all lost or 'abandoned' property (including clothing on the coat stand) will be deposited in bins in the foyer. These will be marked up for the month, and after 3 months the contents will be disposed of. Valuables such as watches, glasses, phones etc. will still be given to the bar for safe keeping and hopefully retrieval. If you are searching the bins it would be really appreciated if you could make sure you leave everything tidy and do not put contents from one bin into another! If the content is muddled up, I may throw things out prematurely i.e. before they have been kept for three months. I hope the delay in throwing out will give everyone time to find their property.I hope this makes sense and if you have any queries do give me a ring on 6250604. Cheers, Anne de St Paer

The two cannons at the front of the club are dedicated to Rex Cross andDon Smith. Mrs Cross was 6 weeks shy of her 96 birthday and passed awaypeacefully, with her family by her bedside.
