Team 3 Name:

Tesseract Media Group

Team Topic:

For our team project, our group will be researching the topic of how information systems is implemented in the industry of online retailers and marketplaces, with our central focus being on the use of mobile applications. We will look into three different companies, Amazon, EBay, and Overstock, to see and compare how each function and implement concepts learned in information systems.

In the paragraphs below, there is information on each of the three companies our group will be researching:

EBay:

EBay is a massive online marketplace where individuals can go to search for and potentially find anything their heart may desire. EBay allows individuals and companies to buy, sell, and trade items such as electronics, clothes, furniture, and even cars or other high-end machinery. On EBay, you can find both brand new and used products. There are two purchasing options, these include bidding on the item, comparable to what you would find in an auction, or purchase immediately through the “buy it now” option which is listed at the price determined by the seller.

Amazon:

Based out of the United States, Amazon is the world’s largest online retail provider. It has grown significantly since its small beginnings as an online bookstore as it now sells anything a consumer might want, including electronics, apparel, food, and entertainment. Available across Europe, part of Asia, and America, Amazon is known for its fast shipping times, name brand electronics, and its additional cloud data infrastructure services.

OverStock:

Overstock is specifically an American online retailer that focuses on closeout merchandise such as home decor, furniture, etc. But now also offers new products as well, such as tech items and clothing. In the past, Overstock used to sell items in auctions but ceased this process a few years back. Overstock is widely used throughout the United States, and is another leading competitor in the online marketplace.

We seek to enable any individual to make sound, informed, and advantageous decisions when considering what applications they might decide to acquire.”

Team Objective:

To discuss the implementation of information systems in online marketplaces, such as Amazon, EBay, and OverStock, while focusing on the potential of mobile applications to determine which provides consumers with the most ease of access, range of options, and speed of service.

To complete our objective, our team will be timely in the completion of the:

-Team Website

-Team Paper

-Team Presentation

-Team Member Evaluation

Preparation and Quality:

What is quality?

Quality can have different meanings, however in our scenario, it means that the work we complete will be above and beyond expectations in a professional manner.

To us, completing work is not just about finishing the task before it is due, but it also means thoroughly going over the work and always making sure it is satisfactory and holds no errors. If you are to compare our work to others, our quality should be just as good, if not better, and should set an example to other groups.

Our work should be reviewed by not only our team but also another group to receive an unbiased response. Our group will be finished with a rough draft of our research paper a week before the assignment is due so that our partner group can have 2-3 days to make suggestions and then give us the rest of the time to prepare a final draft. Our group has also prepared to save our work using Google Drive to give us all access to organize the information and make any necessary changes on the spot.

Team Decision Making:

Team decisions will be made through a democratic voting process. Each of the five team members will vote on decisions at hand and choose an outcome based on the majority number of votes. Because there are five team members, our team will never find itself in a situation where votes will finish in a tie, and we can efficiently and effectively make decisions to complete the tasks leading up to the assignment. Overall, our group believes that the democratic decision process is the best way to come to a conclusion.

Team members are expected to provide ample communication and effort within the entire group. Failure to provide sufficient communication will result in deductions from team member evaluation points. If the team member fails to provide adequate communication and effort, then their actions will be reported to the professor for further punishment.
If a team member fails to meet the deadline for group work, then the member will automatically have team member evaluation points deducted. Additionally, the group will notify the professor so that the proper actions can be taken.
If team member fails to contribute to the group, their actions will result in an automatic deduction from their member evaluation points. Additionally, the team will contact the professor for the proper action to be taken.
In the event that a team member fails to communicate with the group, provide adequate assistance in the overall goals, and becomes nonexistent in cooperation, the member's evaluation points will be deducted indefinitely. Additionally, the professor will be notified immediately. Professor Perry will contact the member in hopes of alleviating the situation so that the member will still have a role in the team. However, if this member does not respond to Professor Perry or the team, then the member will lose his job within the team and be placed within their own group to complete the ass
