January 28, 2014 Topic: “Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia: Early Intervention and New Findings”

Assistant Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine, Program in Geriatrics, and Geriatrician, Elder Abuse Forensic Center of Orange County, UC Irvine School of Medicine, Irvine, CA

Desired Outcomes:

1. / Review the risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and perform a comprehensive medical evaluation
2. / Utilize current screening/testing/imaging mechanisms used to diagnose AD
3. / Address cultural and linguistic barriers which may affect assessment and diagnosis
4. / Analyze the different stages of Alzheimer’s including early onset
5. / Evaluate the advances in current and future treatment protocols, and utilize appropriately
6. / Avoid potential complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease
7. / Utilize community and clinical resources available to the patient, caregiver, and the treating physician
8. / Conduct an appropriate medication reconciliation of the Alzheimer’s or dementia patient

Methods of Instruction

The presentational method for each of the Regularly Scheduled Series above will be Case Presentation with Learner Participation and Small Group Discussion/Roundtable.

Target Audience

The activity content for each of the Regularly Scheduled Series above is geared toward Medical Oncologists, Radiologists, Pathologists, Pulmonologists, Gastroenterologists, and Urologists. All other specialties and allied health care professionals are invited and welcome to attend.

Faculty for each activity listed on both pages have been given information relative to AB1195, which mandates that each CME activity must contain appropriate information on Cultural & Linguistic Competency. You will be asked on the activity Evaluation Form to state whether this law was complied with or not.
