Post # 1 Newsletter Editor AMVETS Post #1 Commander

Adjutant: J. E. “Gene” FosterMarshall Archer

2017 was a banner year for Post 1! While not all reports are not yet complete or haven’t been turned in, here’s what our headlines for 2017 looks like:

  • 3 Biddeford High School students received scholarships or an expense paid trip to Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge.
  • 4 public ceremonies in conjunction with other Veterans Service Organizations and local communities.
  • 6 very successful breakfasts benefiting, BHS scholarships, Toys for Tots, Wounded Warriors, & White Clover campaign.
  • Our bartenders were directly responsible for selling Service Foundation Calendars – 185 books! More than any other post.
  • Donations, Community Support, Veteran Services, Charities, etc., for 2018 was $110,248.92. Super job, everyone!

December saw Post 1 in the home stretch with our Toys for Tots campaign. In the end, there was $4000 in cash and toys. All proceeds and donations from November and December breakfasts went to Toys for Tots. That was followed up by a very successful Christmas party that brought in toys and cash that put us over the top. Huge accomplishment!

Now that January is here, we start out with a clean slate. Together, over the next 12 months, we can fill it out. This is where you come in. Our membership is constantly doing things for the Post, for Veterans, and for the community. Please take a moment, put a little information on the Volunteer Service Report, and pass it along to the bartender, Post Officer, or post mail box. Here are a few things before us this month:

Department of Maine AMVETS Executive Committee meeting is on Sunday, 14 January. That meeting will be at AMVETS Post 3 in Sanford.

So if it’s breakfast you crave – we’ll take care of that while at the same time you are helping us to help others. Don’t miss out. These are some of the breakfast goers at our Toys for Tots breakfast. This month’s breakfast is Sunday, January 21st from 8:00 to 11:00 AM.

Our next AMVETS meeting will be Sunday, January 28that 9:00 am. All AMVETS are invited to attend and speak their mind.
