Time Commitment: 4 hours per week Non-Negotiable: Must be available during one of the Common Hours. Wednesday’s 2:30pm-4:00pm OR Friday’s 12:00pm-1:00pm

Mission Statement: The mission of the Campus Life Student Diversity Programs Office is to initiate and support activities that promote cultural competency among students of the NJIT community. We are committed to raising self-awareness, mutual understanding, and respect for others. Our approach is relational in that we believe in growth-fostering relationships, therefore we commit to providing a welcoming place for all. We pledge to offer a safe space and outlet for dialogue; we commit to provide mentorship and support; as well as engage students to become advocates for issues of injustice in our multicultural world.

Position Overview:

Cultural Events & Celebrations Coordinators are students who assist in the development of the NJIT community that is safe and welcoming for students of all identities. Student Staff create educational and personal enrichment programs with the intent of promoting awareness and inclusivity across campus. Position Responsibilities:

·  Develop, coordinate, and implement active and passive diversity programming for the heritage months below:

·  Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Asian Pacific Islander Month

·  Diversity Week (November)

·  One World Week (April)

·  Collaborate with LGBTQ coordinators for series of programming.

·  Serve as a liaison between Student Diversity Programs and the campus community by establishing positive connections with student organizations and university departments.

·  Reach out to student clubs for collaboration opportunities

·  Commit to 2 hours per month to marketing, which included Tabling to promote Diversity programs and initiatives

·  Actively participate in Diversity Recruitment and Selection Process

Position Qualifications:

·  Interested in one or more of the following topics such as Race, Ethnicity, Sexual Orientation, Disabilities, Religion, Gender, Socioeconomic Status, etc.

·  Interest in Event Planning

·  Strong time management skills & ability to meet deadlines.

·  Hold a 2.50 GPA at the time of hire and start of employment.

·  Maintain good student conduct record

·  Complete Summer Assignments

o  Reading of Book, “Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria” & other articles as assigned

o  Participation in Online Forum every other Monday

·  Attend Mandatory Diversity Training Sessions

·  Monday, May 16th - 12:00pm-4:00pm

·  Monday, August 8th – Friday, August 12th 10:00am-4:00pm

·  Saturday, September 10th - 10:00am-4:00pm

Compensation:

·  $8.50 per hour, priority given to students with Federal Work Study or Institutional Work Study
