Winter Wonders Floral Design
3 – Two and one-half hour sessions -
Class dates: Jan 26, February 2, February 9
Brighten your winter with fresh floral designs. Students will enjoy creating and taking home winter wonderful designs to accent their home or office. (A lab fee of $75 is included in the tuition cost) No prior floral experience necessary.

Grow Your Own! (4 classes)
4 –Two and one-half hour session
Class dates: Feb 23, March 1, March 8, March 15
In this class you will learn how to propagate, grow and maintain your own tomatoes, vegetables, herbs, annuals and other plants. Materials and select seeds, plants and cuttings will be provided for students to do the labs in the greenhouse and then take home to grow on in beds or containers indoors and/or out. Microgreens, ethnic foods, aquaponics, growing under lights and organics will be topics covered as well.Lab Fee of $50

Landscape and Lawn Maintenance(2 classes) May 17 and May 24
This class will help you understand how to maintain your landscape. Information on lawn care and renovation and care of trees, shrubs, perennials, etc.will be provided. Bring lots of questions and plant material samples to identify! Soil tests will be conducted. Lab Fee of $12.

Spring Floral Arrangements (3 classes)
3– Two and one-half hour sessions -
Class dates: March 29, 12 and 19
This is a three week class in which you will create three distinctly unique fresh arrangements with themes to make spring come alive! A lab fee of $75 is included in tuition cost

BIO
Deborah Chavesis an instructor at Monroe Technology Center where she teaches Environmental Plant Science and Biotechnologyin the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Department. She is also an adjunct professor with the Horticulture Department at NVCC andhas taught horticulture classes through the LCPS Adult Education program for over20 years.She studied architecture atCornell UniversityandVirginia Techand has a BS and MS in Horticulture fromVirginia Tech.She recently completed a graduate Certificate in ISTEM (Integrated Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fromVirginia Tech.
Her professional background includes over fifteen years in retail horticulture and over 25 years in the industry as a landscape designer and horticultural consultant. Mrs. Chaves is a Certified Horticulturist with the Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association and a Certified Greenhouse Operator with the Virginia Flower Growers’ Association and holds a VA Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License.
