Course Description/Teaching Methods

Language and communication are the essence of all that is human. The world of the 21st century is one which all people must learn to communicate both culturally and linguistically with others around the world. The goals for this Spanish class are;

·  To equip students with realistic lifelong skills that will enable them to function competently in a language other than their own and communicate and compete effectively in the global community and marketplace

·  To instill a greater awareness of their own culture and the cultures of others

·  To enrich students’ lives by increasing their appreciation for language and culture.

National Standards

The standards created by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language will enable all students to fulfill the classroom goals for the year.

Comparisons / 4.0 Develop insight into the nature of language and culture.

Classroom Rules

1. Follow directions the first time they are given.

2. Be in the classroom on time, prepared, and 100% ready to participate.

3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself at all times.

4. Use appropriate language; no put-downs, teasing, or inappropriate words.

5. If you have questions or comments raise your hand.

6. NO food (including GUM or CANDY) or drink allowed in classroom unless given special permission.

*Note: Students are expected to also follow the school code of conduct as well as classroom rules while in Spanish

Consequences

1st offense: Student is given an official warning.

2nd offense: Student will attend after-school or before-school detention. (7:15 a.m. -7:45 a.m. or 3:15 p.m.-3:45 p.m.)

3rd offense: Parents will be contacted for a conference and behavior contract will be drawn if problem persists.

4th offense: Student will be sent to the office.

Absences

In Spanish we do almost all of our learning together in class. It is very important for the student to be in class and participate every day. If the student is absent, please ask what you have missed!!
