Cinquains:

One idea is to use fruit or vegetable as a topic.

Octopoem:

8 line poem

Example:

Haiku:

A traditional form of Japanese poetry. The form is 3 lines totalling 17 syllables.

Line 1. 5 syllables

Line 2. 7 syllables

Line 3. 5 syllables

Example:

As the wind does blow

Across the trees, I see the

Buds blooming in May

Rhyme poem:

Rhymes are types of poems which have the repetition of the same or similar sounds at the end of two or more words most often at the ends of lines.

Example:

Mary had a little lamb,
but it was not a fool.
As Mary walked he stopped a car
and hitched a ride to school.

Limerick:

A funny 5 line poem

You will see that the first two lines rhyme, the second two lines are shorter and they rhyme, then the last line rhymes again with the first two.

Example:

A – A – B - B - A

A funky young shark known as Shaun,

Was good mates with young peter the prawn,

Though they made an odd pair,

One has to be fair,

And say both taste good served with sweetcorn

Acrostic:

A word is chosen and each letter describes the word of the topic.
