14. General Summary of Function/Purpose of Position
This position will be responsible for producing high quality, engaging videos from script to final edit. This position will also serve as photographer when those services are needed. Videographer to use an array of multi-media tools and platforms to create and produce high-quality, multi-media assets that can be distributed through a variety of digital outlets as a means to promote DNR programs and policies. Builds and maintains video and photo catalog and searchable archive. Responds to requests for video and/or photo sequences from other government agencies (including local, state and federal), educators, publishers, newspapers, magazines and organizations.

Duty 1

General Summary of Duty 1 % of Time 50

Produce videos to promote, enhance and educate the public about the work of the DNR.
Individual tasks related to the duty.
·  Works with division representatives to coordinate, plan, produce and direct videos for educational and informational purposes for the DNR.
·  Makes necessary contacts with subject-matter experts inside and outside the department to ensure the correct video/audio footage is collected to relay department’s message.
·  Travels to filming location to create appropriate video sequence for assignment. Some video assignments require hours, often days away from home and office.
·  Selects proper video/audio equipment for each assignment in anticipation of its potential uses. Considerations include various lighting techniques, foreground/background, props, specific camera and use of microphone.
·  Sequences and edits work, determines titles, animation and music.
·  Provides video for news releases, public service announcements, the department website and presentations.
·  Works with marketing manager, marketing staff, and division staff in selecting appropriate subject matter pertaining to current DNR programs and policies.
·  Provides creative video expertise for all divisions.

Duty 2

General Summary of Duty 2 % of Time 20
Produce photographic images to promote, enhance and educate the public of the work of the DNR
Individual tasks related to the duty.
·  Works with division representatives to coordinate, plan and produce photographs for educational and informational purposes.
·  Makes necessary contacts with subject-matter experts inside and outside the department to ensure the correct images are collected to relay department’s message.
·  Travels to worksite to create appropriate photos for assignment.
·  Selects proper photo equipment for each assignment in anticipation of its potential uses. Considerations include various lighting techniques, foreground/background, props, specific camera, lens focal length and exposure.
·  Processes still files, edits, catalogs and archives photos.
·  Provides photos for DNR news releases, website, social media and exhibits as needed.
·  Produces audio slide shows as needed.
·  Provides still photos to illustrate the user guides.
·  Creates official portraits and/or group photos of department personnel and other individuals as requested.
·  Works with marketing manager, marketing staff, and division staff in selecting appropriate subject matter pertaining to current DNR programs and policies.
·  Provides creative photo expertise for all DNR divisions

Duty 3

General Summary of Duty 3 % of Time 20
Act as a key resource person in videos and photographic images.
Individual tasks related to the duty.
·  Responds to e-mail and telephone requests for videos and photos.
·  Searches catalogs for images that fulfill request. Request may require additional time spent searching other image collections such as state archives, libraries and stock photos.
·  Edits video using computer programs to enhance audio, image resolution, file format and audio per request.
·  Uses computer programs to manipulate digital images (e.g., cropping, resolution, file format, color profile, exposure sharpness and contrast).
·  Tags photos and videos using key words before uploading them to a searchable archival system.
·  Archives and organizes photos and videos from past photographers and videographers.
·  Other duties, as assigned.

16. Describe the types of decisions made independently in this position and tell who or what is affected by those decisions.
May make spur-of the moment decisions to take advantage of a video or photo opportunity to improve upon the DNR’s current collection. Decisions on video and photographic “best practices” including the arrangement, location, lighting, time of day, etc. Selects video sequence(s) and photos which are most suitable to illustrate an article, poster, publication or website. Makes judgments about the most efficient use of time given the opportunities to create video/photos based on anticipated needs/requests. The need to be available on an “on-call” basis in order to capture a desired or highly solicited photo.

Carries field equipment on uneven and/or slippery ground. Works in adverse weather conditions. Job site may include hazards such as loaded guns, wild animals, heavy equipment, biting insects, poisonous plants and wildfires. Amount of time and intensity varies according to job assignment but some assignments may require hours, and possibly days, away from home and the office.

23. What are the essential functions of this position?
This position serves as the official videographer and photographer of the DNR within the Marketing & Outreach Division. This position is responsible for shooting video and photos of all natural resources-related topics and issues. This position works closely with all marketing and media staff to produce images that promote the DNR and effectively communicate to the public.

The marketing section is responsible for the direction of marketing and communications strategies for the department. This position plays a critical role in documenting DNR issues, communicating effectively with the public and promoting DNR programs and services.
26. What are the minimum education and experience qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of this position?
EDUCATION:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in communications arts, speech, or television and radio.
EXPERIENCE:
Media Production Specialist 9 - No specific type or amount is required.
Media Production Specialist 10 - One year of professional experience in directing, producing and writing media related programs equivalent to a Media Production Specialist 9.
Media Production Specialist 11 - Two years of professional experience in directing, producing and writing media related programs, including one year equivalent to a Media Production Specialist 10.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
·  Education in videography or extensive experience
·  Capable of filming in any condition (indoor/outdoor)
·  Ease and ability to follow directions given by event coordinator
·  Strong and creative camera work
