CADET SENIOR NCO PROMOTION COURSE

TO BE HELD AT RAAF BASE EDINBURGH 7-22 JAN 05

GENERAL

Welcome and congratulations on being accepted to attend the Cadet SNCO Promotion Course. These Joining Instructions and Movement Orders are issued to help you prepare for this exacting course.

While every effort has been made to cover the important pre-course requirements, it is possible that you may have questions on areas not covered in these instructions.

My contact details are shown at Annex C. Do not hesitate to contact me if the need arises. You should contact your CO in the first instance for all inquiries.

COURSE AIMS

CADET SENIOR NCO PROMOTION COURSE

1.The aim of the Cadet SNCO Promotion Course is to qualify selected Cadet JNCO’s in suitable supervisory skills in order to perform the role of an AAFC Cadet SNCO..

COURSE DURATION

3.The Course will be conducted at RAAF Base Edinburgh during the period 7- 22 January 2005.

ACCOMMODATION

4.All male cadets on CSNCO Promotion Course Candidates will be accommodated at RAAF Base Edinburgh in building 95 adjacent to the Base Gym. Female cadets will be accommodated in Building 440.

MEALS

5.All cadets will be rationed for in the Airmen’s Mess.

PRE-COURSE PREPARATION

CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT

7.All participants are to ensure that they have the clothing and equipment as listed at Annex A. Cadets should approach their respective Squadron Commander and request Temporary Issue of additional clothing listed below:

8.Cadets who cannot be issued from Squadron stocks are to contact the Squadron Commander who will arrange additional issues through 6WGAAFC Logistics Section. Squadron sources should be used first wherever possible.

a.Patrol Order Webbing and Pack Field Large will not be issued to cadets by 6WG FTS. Cadets without this equipment will need to arrange issue from their within their Squadron.

9.Cadets are to ensure that their uniforms fit correctly paying particular attention to the length of trousers/slacks and that these are not tight across the hips and seat (if the pleats in the front of trousers/slacks are pulled tight then they do not fit correctly). The length of trousers/slacks is to the bottom of the shoelaces.

10.Shirt sleeves are to be to the wrist on long sleeve shirts.

11.Check uniforms for fading and stains.

12.If in any doubt, get new uniforms.

13.All footwear is to be in good repair, fit properly and very highly polished except for Field Boots which are to be clean and polished. Footwear must be well worn in.

PRE-COURSE STUDY

14.All cadets are to ensure that they acquaint themselves with the relevant syllabus of training for their particular course as shown in the MOCT.

15.Cadets are to revise Instructional Technique (JNCO), Leadership (JNCO), Searching Techniques, SMEAC, Drill & Ceremonial (all foot drill) and Fieldcraft Basic and Proficiency.

16.All cadets are to prepare 1 x 10 minute theory lesson of their choice (non-AAFC subject) and 1 x 10 minute practical lesson of their choice (AAFC related subject). These lessons will be assessed during the course.

17.Cadets are to ensure that they know the Drill Patter, which can be found in the front section of the Manual of Drill , by rote.

COURSE PROGRAM

18.A copy of the Course Program will be issued on the first day of the course. The subjects covered in the syllabus will include Theory and Practical Lessons as well as Role Plays, Discussion Groups and Case Studies. Cadets will be required to undertake some of this work after hours but generally speaking your time after Stand-down is yours.

COUNSELING

19.Cadets will receive “Counseling on the run” throughout the course. This may take the form of a quiet word, a pat on the back or encouragement, or, if needed, “severe chastisement” where appropriate. Formal counseling will take place at the end of each week where students will be advised as to their progress. You will not receive “death by counseling” as has occurred on past courses.

COURSE ASSESSMENT

20.All participants are advised that they will be assessed (PA’s) from the moment they arrive at Edinburgh. This assessment will be done by Course staff and annotated daily in course records. All subjects will entail either Theory Examinations and/or Practical Assessments.

21.To pass the course and be recommended for promotion to Cadet SNCO you will need to meet the Graduation Requirements as stated in the MOCT.

22.All cadets in the promotion course are required to fulfill an active participation rate of no less than 90% in each course subject. Cadets at any stage of the course who are unable to fulfil this subject attendance requirement of 90% will be withdrawn from the Course and will be given the option to (1) terminate the course and go home or (2) terminate the course and join a Training Flight and may be required to assist in the operations and administration of the promotion course. The Cadet will be graded as “W- withdrawal.”

COURSE STANDARDS

23.The Course standards are high. Cadet SNCO’s are required to attain the highest standard in All aspects of AAFC duties and we will not accept anything less.

26.As Senior Cadets you are required to set the example to your subordinates and be a role model for all cadets.

TEAM WORK

24.All students will be required to work as a team for the duration of the course. The staff will endeavor to develop teamwork from day 1 and you will be closely monitored in this area.

GRADUATION PARADE

25.The Graduation Parade will be held on the Main Parade Ground, RAAF Base Edinburgh on 22 January 2005 commencing at 0930 hours. All members of the cadet SNCO Promotion Course will make up the Escort Squadron and Banner Party.

26.All Promotion Courses will parade with arms.

27.By order of OC 6WGAAFC, the Dux of each course will be promoted on the Graduation Parade.

28.Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to Dux, second and third on each course. In addition, the Dux of CWOFF Course will be presented with a Pace Stick.

29.Cadets inviting guests to the Graduation Parade are to complete the attached forms and bring them to course. They will be collected on day 1.

36.Cadets unable to attend the course are to advise TOPSNCO NLT 11 Dec 04 of their inability to attend the course. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action and repayment of all costs to 6WGAAFC by the cadet concerned.

GENERAL

37.We appreciate the fact that you have given up a large slice of you Christmas school holidays to participate in this course. You are obviously self motivated, dedicated to the AAFC and have a desire to get to the top. I remind you that this course is a demanding one, however, the staff will endeavor to make this course as enjoyable as possible. I would like us all to go away on 22 Jan 05 with many fond memories, a sense of satisfaction in achieving our goals and finally, have had a lot of fun.
