Geometry
Early College Academy 2017-2018
Course Description:
This course is a study of Euclidean geometry. It has a strong development of visualization and drawing skills. Both algebraic and geometric models are introduced and are further developed as students use geometry to model a variety of real-world situations. This course will also introduce topics of data analysis and probability.

Grading System:
Letter grades will be earned as follows:
90% + = A 80-89.99% = B 70-79.99% = C 60-69.99% = D 00-59.99% = F
Assessments (Quizzes and Exams) 70% of course grade
· Quizzes will be given frequently to assess student progress with the daily material.
· The opportunity to improve quiz scores for ½ points back will be made available to every student who earns less than a “C” grade.
· Unit exams will be given approximately every 4 – 6 weeks.
· There will be a cumulative semester final exam.
· There will be NO opportunity for retakes or corrections on Unit and Final Exams. It is important to study!
· Projects or other assessment formats (District Assessments) may be used as an evaluation tool.
Assignments (In-class participation, Homework, iXL, Khan Academy, etc.) 30% of course grade
· Assignments are given daily. They will require dedicated time both in class AND at home to complete.
· Deadlines and due dates will be announced during class.
· NO Late assignments will be accepted.
Additional instructional support:
· Students are expected to utilize the academic support period and tutors provided within the daily schedule.
· Additional support from Mrs. Rupple is available by appointment (usually after school).
· Please email or call if you ever have ANY questions.
· Check your grade at least once a week on the Early College Academy webpage (Infinite Campus Portal).
Attendance:
· Your first and strongest strategy for success is to fully participate in class EVERY DAY!
· Excused Absences - Planned: If you will miss class because of a planned event, i.e. school activity, family event, doctor’s appointment, you must get the day’s assignment prior to your absence. This work is due on the same due date given to the rest of the class. Maintaining this practice will ensure that you are keeping up with your classmates in the learning of the content.
· Excused Absences - Unplanned: If you miss class because of an unexpected event, i.e. illness, family emergency, check the website and/or contact Mrs. Rupple by phone or email for your assignment. You are allowed two days for each class missed to turn in your make-up work.
· Unexcused Absences: If your absence from school is unexcused, you are still required to make up any work missed, but are only entitled to partial credit for that work (50% of original value). This applies to any work missed, assignments or assessments.
· At 4 and 8 absences from this class, the teacher will call home/email parents.
· After the 4th day of absence, a letter will be printed from IC and will be sent home/emailed.
· After the 7th day of absences, a letter will be printed from IC and will be sent home/emailed.
· After the 10th day of absences, the district will be notified as per truancy law, and the student may be referred to truancy court.
Tardiness:
· Students are expected to be in their seats, prepared to begin class, at the appropriate time.
· Habitual tardiness will be addressed by Mrs. Rupple on a case by case situation.
Behavioral Expectations: RESPECT
· Mutual respect and courtesy among all members of this classroom community – teachers, students, tutors, administrators, visitors, etc.
· Respect of the learning environment including the building, all equipment and furniture, etc.
· It is your responsibility to ensure that technology devices (phones, computers, etc.) are used appropriately.
· ONLY Water is allowed. No food or other drink is allowed in the classroom.
· BATHROOM / HALL PASSES: Personal needs should be addressed during the passing period. If you must take care of personal needs AND it’s an appropriate time, ask for permission.
· Standards of behavior and dress will otherwise be aligned with the current student handbook.
Students are expected to be active and responsible participants in their own education.
Academic Integrity:
Cheating / academic dishonesty denies the value of education, damages the ethical character of the individual student, and undermines the integrity of our school community. Early College Academy students are expected to demonstrate personal integrity and intellectual honesty in all academic work.
Academic dishonesty is defined as any attempt to gain an unfair academic advantage or recognition to which one is not entitled, or to assist others to do so. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, collusion, falsifying academic records and the misrepresentation of facts.
Consequences
· The teacher will discuss the violation concerns with the student. An immediate consequence will be NO credit for the work in question. This has the potential to significantly affect a student’s overall class grade and ability to earn credit for the course.
· The parent(s) will be notified.
· The building principal and academic dean will be notified. A disciplinary note will be placed in the student’s behavior file on Infinite Campus.
· Other specific consequences will be assigned on a case by case basis, in consultation with the building principal, and academic dean.
