Scientists say that weather affects people’s environment – favourite – mood. Their studies show that there are four types of people; summer lovers, summer haters, rain haters and unaffected. Summer lovers like warm and sunny – snowy – windy weather. They feel sleepier – moodier – happier on days with more sunshine. They love high degrees – temperatures – conditions. Summer haters and summer lovers are complete opposites. Summer haters’ favourite weather type is hot – cold – warm and cloudy weather. They feel scared – fabulous – energetic when they see the sun. Rain haters shouldn’t see the even a rain drop. Nice – Dry – Wet weather makes them angry. Weather doesn’t affect the unaffected type of people. They feel the same with rain or sun, hot or cold. But scientists add that they may understand – feel – have more anxious than normal on cloudier days.

Jenny: Where are you from?

Barbra: I’m from Norway.

Jenny: Really? My geography teacher says that the sun doesn’t appear in winter in Norway.

Barbra: That’s right. This is morketiden.

Jenny: Excuse me? What does morketiden mean?

Barbra: It means the dark time. We have Polar nights. When the sun doesn’t appear for 24 hours, we call it a Polar Night. Tromso, where I live, has 60 Polar nights. That means we have no sunlight for two months in winter. It’s always stormy and snowy. The temperature is below 0 degrees Celcius.

Jenny: How do Norwegians feel?

Barbra: Anxious, sleepy and depressed.

Jenny: That’s bad. What do they do?

Barbra: Norwegians learn what to do about this in schools. Also, there are health centers. They teach Norwegians that getting Cod Liver Oil is very important. So they eat a lot of fish products to get omega 3, vitamin A and vitamin E. Also, they do physical exercise like skiing.

Jenny: What’s the weather like in summer?

Barbra: It’s hot and sunny. During summer, the sun never sets. You can play tennis at two o’clock in the morning. Swimming is a very popular pastime. People are under the sun all the time. They get a lot of sunlight.

Jenny: They need it in winter.

Barbra: Right.
