RBHS Students and Parents/Guardians,
The 2016 Legislative Forum is hosted by the Missouri PTA and Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA) on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM in Jefferson City. At the conference students will learn advocacy skills, meet legislators and school board members from across the state, and hear guest speakers. Those attending will have interaction with legislators and leadersfrom our state government so “business casual” is the required attire for the day. The students will start the day at Capital Plaza Hotel in the morning and then go to the State Capitol in the afternoon. The event is free and transportation and lunch will be provided.
This will be an opportunity for our RBHS students to learn more about legislation likely to impact Missouri schools. MSBA’s advocacy staff, guest speakers from the General Assembly and educational community (possibly Department of Elementary and Secondary Education staff) will discuss the latest education issues being debated in Jefferson City. It should be noted that it is quite an honor for our RBHS students to be the only Missouri high school group invited to this Legislative Forum. Missouri PTA and MSBA feel it is important to continue the conversations that were started by our RBHS students at the Youth Advocacy and Leadership Summit held at RBHS last April. These groups want to continue to gain perspective and have input from the students themselves on very important issues facing our secondary schools. Also, we do hope to connect with our Boone County legislators and CPS school board members attending.
RBHS PTSA is supporting this trip for our students. We look forward to having our RBHS students represent the Columbia Public School District at such an important forum in Jefferson City. Please contact us either by email or phone if you have any questions. The registration form must be completed and returned to Mrs. McGonigle in the Principal’s Office on or before Wednesday, February 3, 2016.
Sincerely,
Katherine SasserDeb Linneman
