Cathy Meinholz

Bureau of Highway Operations

To clarify and simplify the discussion on the cost of winter highway

maintenance, let us go with the following statement to conclude the

paragraph immediately following the discussion of deaths and injuries:

"According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the

department spent an average of $33.2 million to the 72 counties to

perform winter maintenance activities on the state trunk highway system

during the relatively mild three winters between 1997/98 and 1999/2000."

Hope this clarifies and simplifies.

Ed

P.S. Yes, and the correct terminology since Wisconsin became the

first state in the country to number its highways back in 1918 is the

"state trunk highway system", to distinguish from the country trunk

system and town roads!

Dear Ed,

The safety seminar is just around the corner, March 3rd. I just wanted to

touch bases with you as to your topic, any audio/visual equipment needed and

to get some biography information on yourself.

1. As we had previously discussed, boundary layer meteorology would be

topic that balloonists would be interested in. Maybe you have some insight

as to an approach to this after your flight. If you plan to have any

handouts or want some brochures included with our information packet, please

either e-mail or snail mail them to me.

2. If you have any audio/visual materials (i.e. require a data projector,

VCR, etc.) please let me know. Actual video/data is always of interest to

the group.

3. If you could provide me with some bio information about yourself to

include with the BFA (Balloon Federation of America) registration of the

safety seminar as well as included into the attendees packet. Again, you

can either e-mail that to me or snail mail at the address below.

I have included some attachments, that I hope you can open, as to the

schedule of the seminar and general information. You are scheduled to be

the first speaker at 8:00 AM.

If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to

contact me.

Here is the address info:
