CLASSIFICATION
Children’s Services Employee Level 2
POSITION OBJECTIVES
The employee has limited responsibility for his or her work, and works under direction to assist in the implementation of a developmentally appropriate program for individual children or groups, while ensuring that:
- As required, each child is given individual attention and comfort
- An awareness is developed, and assistance is provided in the maintenance of the health and safety of the children in care
- The philosophy, policies and procedures of the service are upheld, and implemented
QUALIFICATION
An employee who has completed 12 months at CSE level 1, a relevant AQF Certificate II, or in the opinion of the employer, possesses sufficient knowledge or experience to perform the duties at this level.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Ability to refer families to senior employees in a sensitive, supportive, and professional manner
- Ability to interact with children in a positive, sensitive and respectful manner
- Ability to assist in the implementation of developmentally appropriate and inclusive programs for children reflecting the multi-cultural and social nature of the community
- Ability to assist in the provision of support for additional needs of children with complex health support needs and /or disabilities
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Some experience interacting with groups of children from 5 – 12 years of age
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Current Senior First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain in first 6 months of employment at this level)
- A criminal history clearance letter through Families SA, Department of Family and Communities (SA)
- Completion of Responding to Abuse and Neglect - Education and Care training
- Attendance at out of hours meetings, training and Service functions may be required (Award / Agreement remuneration / conditions apply)
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
All duties must be carried out with regard to:
- Adherence to relevant policies, procedures and statutory requirements
- Respect for and inclusion of diversity in its many forms
- Respect for and maintenance of confidentiality
Delivery of quality care and children’s programs /
- Assistance in the implementation of quality programs and routines
- Assistance in the hygienic handling of food and equipment
- Any other duties consistent with the intent of the classification as may be required
Professional Development and Teamwork /
- Participation in training as required
- Foundational awareness of duty of care to children
- Participation in the development of team work skills
Administration /
- Appropriate and timely completion of time sheets and information for correct payment of wages
- Support compliance with the appropriate reporting procedures and requirements
ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Varies according to the prevailing operational model
The employee will be directly responsible to (one of the following):
- CSE Level 4 employee
- The Assistant Director/Director of the Service and (DECS site) through her/ him to the Principal or delegate
EXTENT OF AUTHORITY
The employee has limited responsibility for the quality of his or her work, and works under the strong direction of a CSE level 4 employee, Assistant Director, and Director.
The Declaration is added to the final Job Description. This Declaration must be signed before the employee commences in his or her role at the service.
