BIOMES

Objectives

·  Identify terrestrial

·  Describe the environmental factors and the plants and animals of each biome

·  Identify the location of different biomes on a world map

·  Understand the interrelationship between environmental factors and the plants and animals within a biome

·  Describe examples of plant and animal adaptations to specific biomes

·  Be able to predict a biome using climographs

Task

You will determine the key elements of one of the world’s major biomes and create a poster to share with classmates that demonstrates a complete understanding of your biome. These biomes include:

Elements to include to in final product:

·  Two climographs from two locations with your biome. Use the climograph creator software.

·  Abiotic factors other than climate – soils, elevation, latitude, seasonal variation,

·  Typical plant varieties and their adaptations

·  Typical animal species and their adaptations.

·  Where on earth is this biome located?

Guiding questions:

-1.  What are the unique characteristics of the biome?

-1.  How are the plants and animals of the biome adapted to their environment?

-1.  How are the biomes similar to one another?

-1.  Where in the world is each biome located?

-1.  Which biome do you live in? What other biomes have you visited? What do you know about each one?

Scoring

Points / 4 / 3 / 2 / 1
Required Information / ·  A climograph from one location in your biome. A climograph from two different locations would be better
·  Other abiotic factors – soils, elevation, latitude, seasonal variation,
·  Typical plant varieties and their adaptations
·  Typical animal species and their adaptations.
·  Where on earth is this biome located?
·  Plus More!! / 5 bullets / 4 bullets / 3 bullet
Accuracy / All info accurate and clear / Accurate but may not be real clear / Some inaccuracies / Many inaccuracies
Product / Creative,
Informative,
Neat
WOW! / Adequate / A third grader could do this / You’ve got to be kidding
Grammar / No grammatical errors / 1-2 errors / 3-4 errors / More than 4 errors
Partnership / ·  Clear division and sharing of labor / 1 person dominates and others follow / 1 person does it all / It can’t get any worse
