National Certificate in Sports Turf (Level 5)
Level / 5Credits / 70
Purpose
This qualification is primarily for sports turf professionals who require recognition of specific sports turf management, land based environmental management, or business skills that will enable them to work in management positions in the sports turf industry. These include positions such as managers of sports turf and amenity facilities, golf managers, and golf superintendents.
Elective 1 is designed to recognise sports turf and/or land based environmental management skills. People can select standards that relate to their own workplace requirements and/or to fill their own management skill development needs.
Elective 2 is designed to recognise the business skills required for sports turf professionals. People can select standards applicable to their workplace including – analysing environmental factors on an organisation, financial skills, accounting, communication skills, human resource management, organisational direction and strategy, people development and coordination, quality management, and systems and resources management.
This qualification provides a pathway for people who have completed the National Certificate in Sports Turf Management (Level4) [Ref:0203], and who wish to progress from sports turf supervisory positions to sports turf management positions.
On completion of this qualification people can progress to the National Diploma in Sports Turf Management (Level6) [Ref:1272] (which shares some credits in common), or the National Diploma in Business (Level5) with optional strands in Accounting, Finance, Finance – Māori, Health and Safety Management, Human Resource Management, Māori Business and Management, Marketing, People Development and Coordination, Project Management, Quality Management, and Systems and Resources Management [Ref:1498]. This standard recognises the skills necessary to analyse the internal and external environmental factors which impact on the candidate's organisation. Candidates who select this standard will be able to assess the implications of that analysis on organisational decision making by identifying aspects of sports turf and applied business management skills that they are competently performing in their organisation, and aspects that would benefit from skills development.
Recognition of Prior Learning: Prior learning may be recognised for each standard in this qualification. This may be done by application to the Primary Industry Training Organisation for the Sports Turf standards or through assessment by an accredited provider.
