Subject: Type II Water Supply Repair Notification Policy

Policy

District Health Department No 2 (DHD2) shall require that all registered well drilling contractors and all registered pump installers contact DHD2 prior to any repairs but in any case within 24 hours, one (1) business day, when involved in repair of a Type II Public Water Supply system that necessitates disinfection and bacteriological sampling.

Purpose

The main intent of this policy is to assure that drinking water from public water supplies has been properly sampled after repairs to demonstrate water quality that meets state standards. Additionally this policy will:

1.  allow DHD2 to review a proposed repairs to assure proper components are installed

2.  allow for planning of disinfection and bacteriological sampling in a timely fashion

3.  provide for an approved alternative water supply on an interim basis

4.  provide for appropriate precautionary measures and signage in an interim basis

5.  allow the Type II water supply to be in compliance with applicable state standards

Procedures

1.  The registered well drilling contractor or registered pump installer shall contact DHD2 when repairs are necessary to a Type II Public Water Supply system.

2.  Such contact should be prior to the repair so as to allow DHD2 to review and make any recommendations or requirements known to the water well drilling contractor

3.  In any case contact with DHD2 must be within 24 hours, one (1) business day, after repairs have begun.

4.  Should contact with DHD2 not occur within 24 hours after the repairs have begun, then the well drilling firm or pump installation firm shall be subject to a fee as determined by the Board of Health for DHD2

5.  Such fee(s) shall not be a substitute for the well drilling firm or the water supply owner being required to take appropriate measures to assure the Type II water supply is in compliance with state standards.
