#1: Pacific Miniatures Tour

Tuesday, July 16, 10 to 11:30 am.
Ages 8 and up. Limit 20 persons. $5 per family registration.

For over 65 years Pacific Miniatures has produced scale models of aircraft, starting with propeller aircraft, and then jets and model rockets. We will see the entire process from design, building, painting and detailing of the models. PacMin is located at 2021 Raymer Avenue, Fullerton 92833. From Rosecrans Avenue, go south on Gilbert, cross Malvern, then turn left (East) on Raymer.PacMin is on the left; parking lot is east of the building.

# 2:Baxco Pharmaceutical Tour

Wednesday, July 17 , 10:00 to 11:00 am
Ages 8 and up. Limit 20. $5 per family registration

Baxco packages vitamins and nutritional products at their facility in Walnut.There are soft gels, tablets and capsules packaged and labeled at this facility.We will see the unscrambler, dessicant inserter, counter, capper and labeler for fish oil capsules. Each student will receive a bottle of multi-vitamin gummies. Baxco is a sponsor of the Youth Science Center. See

# 3: Raymond M Alf Museum Tour

Friday, July 19, 10:00 am to 11:30 am
Age 6 and up. $4 per person, Limit 30 persons.

The Raymond Alf Museum has a great display of dinosaur skeletons and skulls, plus fossils from all over the world. Students of the Webb School, where the museum is located, dug many of the specimens.On this guided tour you will see all of these exhibits plus stuffed animals, track ways, and rock and mineral specimens in the Hall of Life and Hall of Footprints. The tour will begin with a viewing of “Jurassic High” in the lecture hall.

Location: The Alf museum is located at 1175 W. Baseline Road in Claremont, between Garey and Towne Avenues, and is located on the campus of the Webb Schools.The entrance guard will direct you to parking.

#4: SpaceX Facility in Hawthorne

Tuesday, July 239:45 am to 11:30 am
Age 8 and up. $10 per family. Limit 25 persons.

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) is the leading private rocket launch company. Their latest rocket, Falcon Heavy, can lift nearly twice the payload of the US Space Shuttle.SpaceX has successfully sent a resupply vehicle to the International Space Station. We will get an overview of SpaceX worldwide operations, and then see how their heavy payload rockets are designed, fabricated and assembledDeadline to apply: July 7.1 Rocket Road, Hawthorne, CA 90250.
For persons under age 18 you do not need to include Social Security digits.
Tour entry is via the North Side entrance, near the white tent inside the Receiving parking lot.
You must park in the lot across the street.

These basic rules must be followed for the SpaceX tour:
- Fill out the JPL and SpaceX information sheet
- All US persons age 18 or over must bring a government-issued ID for entry (ie driver's license, passport, green card)
- US persons under age 18 do not require ID for entry.
- All non-US persons (of any age) must email a copy of their valid Passport at least 5 days before the visit
- All non-US persons (of any age) must present actual Passport (no copies) for entry and to join the tour
- Closed-toed shoes only (no sandals, flip-flops, etc.)
- No luggage, backpacks, bags, large purses, etc.
- No cameras, video, sketching or note taking on the tour
- No phone use, emailing, texting, twittering, etc on the tour

#5:Sanitation District Waste Treatment Plant

Wednesday, July 24, 10 to 10:45 am.
Ages 7 and up. $5 per family. Limit 25.

Tour participants will visit the San Jose Creek Water Reclamation Plant, a state-of-the-art wastewater (or sewage) treatment facility. You will learn how your wastewater is cleaned and reused. Experience the sights, sounds, and smells involved in this important process. In addition, you'll discuss the water cycle, water conservation, and how our actions impact the water environment. Open to ages 7 and up.
The plant is located at 1955 Workman Mill Road in North Whittier, just north of the 60 Freeway and east of the 605.From Hacienda Heights, take the 60 Freeway and take the Crossroads Parkway (Fry’s) exit. Turn right on to Crossroads Parkway and continue as it curves around to where it ends at Workman Mill Road. The plant will be directly in front. Go to the main lobby and wait for the tour guide.
Note: Open-towed shoes, sandals and flip-flops not allowed.

#6:San Pedro Bus Trip:Marine Mammal Care Center and Cabrillo Beach Museum.

Friday, July 26, 9 to 3 pm.
All ages. $10 per person. Limit 40 persons.

The MMCC helps to educate the public about the marine sciences and the animals that they care for.There will be an overview ofmarine mammals and medical conditions that are seen in the Care Center, a video, classroom activity and a mock animal rescue and rehabilitation exercise.Bring your lunch, which will be at the Cabrillo Aquarium picnic area.There is a Johnnies Hot Dog truck on site.After the break we will visit the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium for a self-guided tour. The historic Frank Gehry-designed aquarium displays the largest collection of Southern California marine life in the world. Meet at the bus in front of Wedgeworth School, 16949 Wedgeworth Drive in Hacienda Heights at 9:00 am.

# 7: Page Museum / La Brea Tar Pits

Saturday, July 27, 10:00 am to Noon
All Ages. $10 per family. Limit 30 persons.

An exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Page Museum to see paleontologists at work in the dig pit and inside the fossil recovery and preparation lab. Learn how animals were trapped in the tar pits. We will also visit the large underground fossil storage area.
Location: The museum is located at 5801 Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles. Park in the pay lot on the north side of the building off Curson Avenue. Meet at the employee’s entrance on the northeast side of the museum.
DO NOT GO TO THE MAIN ENTRANCE!!!
This tour includes free admission to the Page Museum exhibit area.

#8: Columbia Memorial Space Center in Downey

Saturday, August 3, 10:00 am to Noon
Age 7 and up. $4 registration fee per student, $5 per adult. Limit 40 persons.
Location: 12400 Columbia Way, Downey 90242

A visit to the Columbia Space Center in Downey.The 20,000 square foot Center opened in 2009 and is filled with many hands-on space and engineering displays, including an interactive piloting exhibit, shuttle docking exhibit and for those 7 years old and up, the Lego robotics lab activity “Mission to Mars.” Also on display are artifacts from the space program.

#9: Young Eagles Program at Flabob Airport

Saturday, August 10 7:15 am to 11 am
Registration $5 per family. Flight fee is $10 per student. Limit 30 students.

The Young Eagles program will give students a ground school introduction to flight and airport safety rules and lots more. They will then do a pre-flight safety inspection of the aircraft. Students will board a dual-control aircraft and will take a flight around the Riverside area. They will be allowed to take the controls of the aircraft under the supervision of an FAA certified pilot. The historic Flabob Airport is located at 4130 Mennes Avenue, Riverside 92509. Go east on the 60 Freeway, exit south on Rubidoux Blvd. Turn left on Mission Blvd, go 3 blocks and turn right on Mennes. Meet in building 16A. Flabob opened in 1925 and is the seventh longest surviving airport in California. It has a 3,200 foot runway. A Young Eagles registration form will be sent. It needs to be filled out and signed by a parent and brought to the airport on flight day.

#10:Rose Bowl Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Tuesday, August 13, 9:45 to 11:30 am.
All ages. $10 per person, minimum 20 persons needed.
1001 Rose Bowl Drive, Pasadena.

Our personal tour guide will show locations including: the Press Box, the Post-Game Interview room, the UCLA locker room, the 1922 locker room, the actual playing field, the newly renovated Pavilion and more.
The tour will last about 90 minutes, and your group will have their own personal tour guide. The guide will give the group all the fun facts and important historical information about the Rose Bowl’s last 90 years.Bring your lunch and have it at the Court of Champion picnic tables.From Hacienda Heights, take the 60 west, 605 north, 210 west. After the 210 goes north in Pasadena, exit left on Seco Street and go under the freeway (West). Turn right on N Arroyo Blvd to Rose Bowl Drive on the left. This is the first time that the public has had the opportunity to tour the Rose Bowl.

# 11: Jet Propulsion Lab Field Trip

Tuesday, August 1312:45 to 3 pm
Limit 30 persons. Age 7 and up. $5 per person.

JPL will give the YSC a private tour of the NASA Spaceflight Research and Development Center. The visit will begin with a 20-minute film introduction to space exploration. In the museum we will see models of the Voyager spacecraft, Mars Pathfinder Rover, and learn about plans for future space flight. We will also see Mission Control and the spacecraft assembly area.
When registering you must give the full names of all adults and children attending. Persons over 18 MUST GIVE THEIR COUNTRY OF CITIZENSHIP OR RESIDENCE. NO EXCEPTIONS!Deadline to apply is July 15.
Location: From Hacienda Heights, take the 60 west, then the 605 north, and the 210 west. Continue through Pasadena and take the 210 northbound. Exit on Berkshire Ave/Oak Grove exit and go right. Turn left on Oak Grove Drive and continue 0.8 miles to JPL. Park in the lot, walk across the street, and meet in front of the main entrance. Allow 45 minutes driving time from Hacienda Heights.
