Safety Rules & Procedures for Student Behavior
Science classrooms and activities provide unique learning opportunities. At the same time, their nature provides for greater opportunities for accidents to occur. The following rules and procedures have been established to ensure that each student will have an equal opportunity to learn, taking full advantage of the science setting. For this to occur, safe and considerate behavior is essential. Parents/guardians are asked to review these rules and procedures with their child and then sign and return the Safety Release Form by: ______.
Safety Rules & Procedures:
1. Always show calm, orderly behavior in the science classroom.
2. Do NOT sit on lab tables or desktops.
3. Listen to & follow ALL DIRECTIONS exactly as given.
4. Be safe & careful at all times.
5. Work at lab tables while standing only.
6. REPORT:- any messes found at lab work area.
- all broken or malfunctioning equipment.
- all accidents or injuries to the teacher immediately.
- any broken glassware. Broken glassware is to be put in the Broken Glass Bucket.
- any chemical spills and clean it up with lots of water.
7. NO horseplay will be tolerated. WALK – do NOT run. If horseplay or failure to follow instructions
results in damaged equipment, student will pay for the equipment replacement/repairs.
8. Acceptable protective goggles MUST be worn while doing labs. Normal eyeglasses are NOT
approved for this purpose.
9. An apron MUST be worn while doing labs. Be careful about wearing loose or floppy clothes that
could catch fire or cause an accident.
10. Long hair should be tied back so that it is kept out of apparatuses, chemicals, & flames.
11. NO EATING or DRINKINGis permitted at any time while doing labs. Do not bring in food or
drinks into the classroom unless allowed to by the teacher.
12. Never touch or smell chemicals unless specifically instructed to do so in an experiment.
NEVER taste chemicals.
13. No chemicals, glassware, or equipment is to be removed from the classroom.
14. Clean your work area, including sink. Clean all lab equipment and put away as instructed.
15. Do NOT touch stoves. Keep out of off-limits areas.
16. Do NOT touch fish tanks and terrariums. Be kind to our class “pets.”
17. No student shall participate in labs without first learning the accident procedures for the laboratory
and returning the official Safety Release Form. Lab Safety Quiz will be on: ______.
