I. Agency Description

Vision: Neighbors and congregations living in caring community
Member Congregations: Pilgrim Congregational Church, United Church of Christ; Union Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); Westminster Presbyterian Church (P.C.U.S.A.)

Goals:

·  To build a thriving, healthy community in which member congregations and neighbors partner to strengthen one other

·  To strategically allocate the resources and energies of Union Communion Ministries to all forms of outreach ministry

·  To build a community outreach team to engage in neighborhood listening and report to the Board of Directors on major themes and ideas

·  To engage neighbors and members of the three churches in vital new ways of outreach that will be central to congregational and Union Communion life

·  To call people to new depths of faithfulness through Union Communion Ministries as an expression of our mission in the world

Union Communion Ministries is a non-profit 501c(3) corporation and a voice in the Union/Delmar community since 1966.

II. Responsibilities and Functions

A. Neighborhood Engagement

1. Build a community outreach team

2. Plan training for volunteer teams in listening and issues of white privilege

B. Administration and Programming

1. Plan and develop programs

2. Evaluate programming

3. Assure continuation of the Ivory Perry Park concert series

4. Shape additional programming based on feedback from community listening

C. Personnel Management

1. Coordinate volunteer efforts

2. Supervise interns and other staff as necessary

D. Financial Management

1. Prepare and manage annual budget

2. Develop funding sources: identify resources and write grants

E. Communications and Public Relations

1. Communicate the work of U.C.M. through website and on line media

2. Represent U.C.M. at appropriate congregational and community forums and events

3. Foster working relationships among congregations and with local groups and organizations

III. Accountability: The Executive Director is accountable to and reports directly to the Union Communion Board of Directors through the Board President.

IV. Qualifications

·  Master’s-level degree in related area preferred; Bachelor’s degree required

·  3-5 years experience in social service or social change setting

·  Administrative experience

·  Ability to communicate and work effectively with highly diverse populations

·  Ability and commitment to work with faith-based organizations

·  Computer literacy

·  Grant writing and other fund-raising experience

·  Experience with volunteer management

Union Communion Ministries seeks a part time Executive Director for a church-related, neighborhood-based outreach agency.Average time commitment is 20 hours per week.
