AVIATION ART COMPETITIONSRULES

  1. Squadrons may submit ONEimage in each of the following classes:

Class One - an enrolled cadet aged under 16 on Sunday 7 October 2012.

Class Two - an enrolled cadet aged 16 years or over onSunday 7 October 2012.

  1. The principle subject / feature must be an aircraft which may be of any vintage in an appropriate setting.
  2. Each image is to have the appropriate information card (included in this Annexe) completed and securely attached to the reverse of the entry.
  3. Images must have been completed after 1 October 2011.
  4. Each image must be an original work of art by the entrant.
  5. There is no maximum size for the image.
  6. Images should preferably be framed or mounted.
  7. Any media can be used to create the image. It must however be a two-dimensional image.
  8. No tracings of pictures or photographs are permitted.
  9. The winning exhibits will represent the Wing at the Region Activities Day

MEDIA SKILLS COMPETITIONRULES

  1. Each Squadron may submit ONE team with a maximum of three cadets per team.
  2. A typical Air Cadet scenario will be chosen as the theme for the competition. The scenario may be based on a national, region, wing or squadron/ detached flight-level activity.
  3. Each team will handle the selected event so as to attract a local newspaper to feature the activity by:

a)writing a 200 to 300-word news release about the event (in Word);

b)attaching a digital photograph which best represents the event (in JPG format)

  1. A period of TWO HOURS will be allowed.
  2. Teams will provide their own laptop and camera and will down-load their news release and digital photograph to a stick for judging.
  3. Teams are to report to the judges by1045hrs on the day of the competition.
  4. The judges will use the marking scheme below and their decision is final.
  5. The winning team will represent the Wing at the Region Activities Day

MODELLING AND DIORAMA COMPETITIONSRULES

  1. Squadrons may submit ONE entry in each of the following classes:

Class One-Aircraft Model –an enrolled cadet aged under 16 years on the 7 October 2012

Class Two - Aircraft Model –an enrolled cadet aged 16 years or over on the 7 October 2012

Class Three- Aircraft Model - Staff.

Class Three will be judged for subsequent inclusion in Region Activities Day but not included in the overall Wing Activities Day competition scoring

Class Four - Set Model –an enrolled cadet of any age

Class Five - Open Model –an enrolled cadet of any age.

This is a new class at RAD

The Open Model may by in any medium in3-dimensions (for example lego, warhammer) but not exceed the size limits in para 9 below.Class five will be judged for subsequent inclusion in Region Activities Day but not included in the overall Wing Activities Day competition scoring

Class Six - Aviation Diorama - enrolled cadet(s) of any age

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Falklands conflict the theme for the diorama this year is ‘The Falklands’

  1. Models must be the sole work of the entrant or, if a diorama, of the entrants, and produced between 1 October 2011 and 29 June 2012.
  2. Models may be hand brushed or air brushed, and may be displayed on a base or mirror.
  3. A couple of figures or a vehicle may be positioned on the base to provide scale. Anything considered in excess of this may, at the judge’s discretion, be considered a diorama and disqualified.
  4. Models may be commercial plastic, resin or vacu-form or scratch built. Any after-market accessories including resin etched or after-market decals can be used.
  5. Each entry is to have the appropriate information card (included at the end of this Annexe) completed and securely attached to the entry or accompanying it in such a way that it cannot be separated.
  6. Up to three reasonably sized pictures may, if the entrant wishes, also be left to provide evidence of a colour scheme or impart similar information.
  7. For all classes, except class five, all camouflage or markings applied must be replications of authentic schemes; that is, not “what if” or fantasy schemes. This will give the judges a frame of reference to assess the amount of research that has gone into the chosen scheme and its accuracy. After-market schemes are allowed.
  8. Dioramas must be on a base no more than 0.9 metres (three feet square), to allow them to be passed through a standard door, and be limited to 2.4 metres (8 feet) in height when assembled.
  9. The Set Model must use the announced kit for the given year. However any after-market decals or after-market parts may be used. Schemes must be authentic and not fantasy.
  10. Judges decisions will be final.

MODELLING COMPETITION JUDGES’ CRITERIA

General Construction: 30 points

Consider: seams, filling, sanding, alignment, use of glue

Accuracy & Detail: 40 points

Consider: accuracy of scheme, corrections, after-market, quality of paint work, decal application, clear parts

Finish & Impact: 30 points

Consider: weathering, panel lines, setting, feel, appropriateness, visual accuracy & impact

PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITIONSRULES

  1. Squadrons may submit ONE entry in each of the following classes:

Class 1a : Aviation : an enrolled cadet aged under 16 years on the 7 October 2012

Class 1b : Aviation : an enrolled cadet aged 16 years or over on the 7 October 2012

Class 1c : Aviation : adult staff

Entries must feature an aircraft and may include ACO staff and cadets, ACO flying, military or non-military airfields and air shows.

Class 2a : The ACO and it People : an enrolled cadet aged under 16 years on the 7 October 2012

Class 2b : The ACO and it People : an enrolled cadet aged 16 years or over on the 7 October 2012

Class 2c : The ACO and it People : adult staff

Entries must feature an Air Cadet or adult member at work or play and must include the ATC crest, logo or brand included as part of the original picture, not as an ‘add-in’.

Class 3a : Media Communications : an enrolled cadet aged under 16 years on the 7 October 2012

Class 3b : Media Communications: an enrolled cadet aged 16 years or over on the 7 October 2012

Class 3c : Media Communications: adult staff

Entries must have been published in the cause of publicizing the ACO on a web site, Facebook site, poster or flyer, or in a newspaper or magazine.

  1. Cadets must be enrolled and serving within Hants & IoW Wing and must enter competition class(es) appropriate to their age on the 7 October 2012.
  2. Photographs must have been taken after 1April 2011. This is to allow entries taken during the previous year’s flying display season.
  3. Entries are to be straight images. The only manipulation and enhancement to final image quality must be limited to traditional darkroom methods, and may include shading and dodging, brightness control, contrast control and colour balance.
  4. Entrants are assumed to have the permission of cadets and adult staff featured, for their images to be entered, used within the ACO and displayed outside the ACO. Entrants may be required to evidence such permission. More information on the use of images is in ACP4 and ACP50.
  5. Entrants are deemed to agree that Crown Copyright applies to their entries and to the images being used by the ACO internally and externally. More information on copyright is in ACP50.
  6. Each entry is to comprise one photograph.
  7. Entries are to be prints.
  8. Each entry is to be an A4 sized borderless image mounted on an A4 sized piece of stiff card.
  9. Each image is to have the appropriate information card (included at the end of this Annexe) completed and securely attached to the reverse of the entry.
  10. No entry is to have been entered in a previous Wing Activities Day.
  11. Classes 1c, 2c and 3c (adult classes) will be judged for subsequent inclusion in Region Activities Day but not included in the overall Wing Activities Day competition scoring

No entries in, nor winners of the Wing Activities Day photography competitions are forwarded to the annual national Royal Air Force Photographic Competition nor to the ACO Photographic Competition as both are based on electronic, digital image format, referenced to their respective classes and rules.

However, entrants to the Wing Activities Day photography competitions are strongly encouraged to submit their photographs to both annual national competitions.

WEB SITE COMPETITION RULES

  1. There is now a single class for this competition.
  2. Squadrons are to notify the Wing Media & Communications Officer () by 15 June 2012of their entry to this competition. The email must give the web address of the site.
  3. Judging of the website will take place during the two weeks before WAD. It is recommended therefore that Squadrons do not make changes to their websites after 15 June 2012.
  4. A web site will:

a)comprise a free-standing web site accessible on the internet

b)conform to ACO guidelines, especially on security and be approved by HQAC

c)inform the wider community, as well as prospective and existing cadets and adults

d)show community involvement and achievement

e)include a profile of the facilities and activities of the unit

f)have links from/to and

  1. Each website must be the product of a cadet project and substantially the work of a project team supported and/or supervised by adultstaff. Confirmation of this by the Squadron Commander must be included in the email notification detailed in point 3 above.
  2. The judges will use a marking scheme and their decision is final.

AIRCRAFT RECOGNITION COMPETITIONS RULES

  1. The Competition is run in TWO CLASSES:

Competition A - Under 16 - Any enrolled cadet aged under 16 years of age as of 17 NOVEMBER 2012.

Competition B - Open Class - Any enrolled cadet

  1. Five trophies will be awarded on the day.

The MITCHELL Trophy will be awarded for Overall Winning Squadron from both competitions.

  1. Both will count towards the overall WAD 2012 competition.
  2. Each Sqn can enter TWO teams using the age criteria above.
  3. Each team will consist of THREE members.
  4. The Tests will be run in accordance with ACTO 104.
  5. All Slides for Competition A will come from LIST 1.
  6. Slides for Competition B will come from LIST 1 & 2.
